I loved the location, close to famous Avenida da Liberdade and many Lisbon sights. The standard room was large and comfortable, no complaints here. The beds and linens were very comfy. The cleaning ladies missed to clean our room once (was the late breakfast due change of winter/summer time or our visit of spa reason to skip the routine?). The breakfast buffet is quite varied and rich. The coffee waiters occasionally pour is not tasty, the one from the machine is much better. Also, three out of four days we had to stand in a long line to enter the breakfast room. I know, the hotel was full, but hey, they claim to be a 5 star and all the waiting was caused by the chaotic and poor organization. They should learn the efficiency from the seafood restaurant which we found round the corner. The bar on the top floor is a bit overpriced which you could probably tolerate at luxury hotel, but what is harder to get used to is tired and uninviting design, seating and lighting. Spa is cozy and not crowded and WIFI worked seamlessly. I still recommend the hotel if you get a good deal. Collapse
Nice hotel with spa and pool close enough to walk to see the sights

I was here for a 3 day conference and then moved to another less expesive hotel a few minutes away to stay longer. The hotel is nice, spacious and the hotel staff is amazing. The room was a good size with a large TV, a small desk to work at and a good sized bathroom. The rooms were very quiet to sleep. If you are travelling for pleasure the hotel is a good location, one way is the large square and parquet Eduardo and the Gulbenkien museum and the other way is the water and all of the shops and restaurants. I have to admit that this was the place that I thought had the best pasteis de Nada and we tried one new place every day. The only minor negatives I can call out is that check in and out was slower then it could have been and the bathrooms are a bit dark. Collapse

Staying at Altis Grand Hotel was a good experience for me. It´s a big urban luxury hotel -it´s not the usual vintage or charm hotel so frequent nowadays-. Altis has a functional and somehow business-like atmosphere, although the establishment was full and there were all kinds of public. It has a certain taste from the 80´s although it´s been renovated recently. One of the strong points is the wonderful location, in a upmarket but quiet area, central but not the historical centre. I quite liked the neighbourhood with tree-lined wide streets, dotted every now and then with belle-epoque buildings - not yet entirely replaced by new high-rises -, with public offices, some shops and little traffic, being at the same time just 300 metres away from the busy Avenida Liberdade and Plaça Pombal. The room itself was perfectly isolated, but it wasn´t very big. Contemporary decor, outstanding comfortable beds, good bathroom. One downside was the breakfast, because, although it was good, it wasn´t what you would expect in a five star hotel, especially the orange juice. On the other hand, the common areas were wide and impeccable clean. Altis also provides a spa. I liked it because the heated swimming pool has a quite big size -that definitely a strong point considering this hotel is located in the center of a city, not in a beach resort or in the countryside, many urban hotels claim to have spas but quite often the facilities are rather small. There´s also a good jacuzzi, turkish bath and a sauna. When I went, there were just two more people, so I had a good time after a hectic day seeing around this beautiful city. I guess it might depend a lot on the deal you can get, but I paid a reasonable price, so, all in all, I think I definitely come back to Altis again. Collapse

Let me start by saying that this is not a 5 star hotel... Receptionist who checked us in was very rude and unhelpful. Our room was nice but tiny. Don't expect tea, coffee or water in your room. You can use Nespresso coffee capsule for 2 euros/ each. The standard of housekeeping was different every day. Sometimes our room would be "half" cleaned, they have forgotten to leave us towels or toilet roll. Overall, rooms weren't as clean as you would expect them to be in a 5 star hotel. On the more positive note - breakfast was really nice, restaurant big with plenty of space for everyone and breakfast staff was very polite, cheerful and efficient. And please, don't order room service ! Or go to the bar unless you are happy to pay 5 euros for a small bottle of beer. Do not recommend. Collapse
