We are a young at heart retired couple, late fifties / early sixties, visiting Liverpool for a couple of nights. Our decision to stay at the Aloft came from having accrued loyalty points with SPG from stays in Asia, our only previous experience of the brand. The hotel is situated in the old insurance building and is ideally located just off the centre, close to the Albert Dock area, Liverpool One, Cavern Club etc. Discounted and secure parking is available at the nearby QPark. The architectural features of the original building have been kept, with all amenities on the ground floor having free-standing walls, lighting is about the only fixed feature with a nod to modernity, but it has been chosen well and blends in. There is a definite theme and colour scheme which runs throughout the public and bedroom areas of the hotel, a little brash against the elegance of the building, but okay. Our room was on the third floor, at the back, a reasonable size with ensuite shower room. Very little storage, only two drawers with the rest being on open (and very high) shelving, a wardrobe with a curtain across. Nowhere to stand your suitcase, so we did tend to live out of our cases which stayed on the floor. A simple desk and chair, but good sockets for charging tech and plenty of sockets elsewhere in the room. A hairdryer provided and, a good point, a socket within reach of the mirror. The original windows are huge and, unfortunately for us, looked out directly into a roof top apartment on the next door building, probably less than ten feet between us. This meant that we had to either draw the curtains or remember to be modest - no bath robes provided. Tea and coffee making facilities with mugs and portable cardboard lidded cups with stirrers. Basic toiletries in the bathroom, shower gel and shampoo in large dispensers attached to the wall. The in-room digital safe will fit a laptop, tablet and cameras. Decor was dark and felt rather impersonal, minimalist on the cusp of bare. Bed comfortable and we weren't bothered by noise. The potential of noise was there as the hotel did seem to attract hen parties and other party goers to it's bar on the ground floor, which also doubled up as a restaurant and the location for breakfast in the morning. Not sure how the restaurant would work effectively if the bar were busy, it wouldn't be an intimate meal. In terms of average guests, we felt that perhaps we were older than average. That said, on the evening we arrived, the hotel was hosting a cocktail reception for a brand of drinks, to which guests staying at the hotel were invited. It was an enjoyable way to spend an hour, with free drinks and nibbles and the staff behind the bar really have to be commended for their energy and unending patience. Breakfast was the usual buffet arrangement; a small selection of cereals and bread, good choice of cold meats and cheese and hot items displayed at the hatch and kept good and hot with heat lamps. We liked that the origin of the bacon and sausage were displayed, both of which were tasty. Overall the hotel was okay, nothing special, although ideal for a couple of nights; I don't think the room was sufficiently furnished or an attractive enough environment to want to be there any longer. What soured the experience for us was that, on the last day, my husband unfortunately left the charger for his laptop plugged in beside the bed. As soon as we arrived at our next accommodation (we were not heading home) he emailed the hotel, explaining the situation and asking if Housekeeping could put it to one side. The next day, having heard nothing, we asked our daughter to ring the hotel on our behalf as we had no phone signal at our accommodation. She was told, quite curtly, that nothing had been handed in. She persisted, but was told that a check had been made with Housekeeping and nothing had been found. My husband has yet to receive an answer to his email, a common courtesy surely. This has dented the relationship of trust and, in future, when staying at a hotel,we will probably place far more in the in-room safe than we would do normally. We certainly won't be returning to Aloft. Collapse

Stayed at the Aloft for the first time, staff on reception were very friendly. room was lovely and clean. It was very quiet to say it was in central Liverpool. Extra tea and coffee were available from reception. We were offered a hot and cold buffet breakfast which was discounted if you ordered and payed for the night before, it was fantastic, everything you could want was there including eggs cooked to order. i would definitely recommend this hotel, it is very central to everything, only 5 minutes form Matthew Street. Nice to see that the old building had kept its original features, and the furniture added a modern twist. I will definitely be back. Collapse

As a same Starwood group property, the service standard is not as same as in Asia. I am the Gold member and sent the early check in request while make the reservation. However, I found they mad the note as early CHECK OUT rather than check in. I am very surprised on it. Moreover, the room is so noisy because it is facing the bars. Luckily, I just stay for one night. In the good side, the hotel location is good. Collapse
