Hotel was lovely, staff were excellent and breakfast was very tasty. The room itself was tired and dated, not even in keeping with the theme of the venue. The carpet had a rip in it at the bathroom door, the furniture was all marked and/or chipped, the 2 arm chairs were filthy and stained, the curtains were old and dull looking and the bed was very uncomfortable to the point I am still suffering with a sore shoulder. As there was a wedding on that same night we struggled with parking and my wife was disturbed on several occasions around 2-3am with drunken guests in the hall and next door. Collapse

Dinner bed and breakfast deal

Good value for money, dinner and breakfast very good. Room was fine, beds comfy, bathroom could benefit from some maintenance. Not as bad as expected after reading previous reviews. No complaints for money paid.

I was here last weekend for my mum's wedding in the castle. The location was great and some good photo opportunities. The staff were also very attentative and i coukd not have been happier with their service. We then made our way to the hotel for some late drinks. I realised there had been at least one other wedding (possibly 2) that day though we didn't mind as it didn't get in the way at all. The issue was with our room. I was a bridesmaid and so had not seen my room all day but my boyfriend had some issues with the keycard. It didn't work after having been given a new one a couple of times. We had the same problem when trying to get in the room at 2am and after going back to reception twice for a new one someone finally came up to let us in but didn't give us a new keycard! At this point we were too tired to care and asked again at reception the next morning. This keycard also did not work and we had to ask the cleaner to let us in. So the whole time we were there we were never given a keycard that worked! The rooms were also a little dated though ours did not have any major issues. We were however missing our remote for the tv and were never provided with one despite asking. We found out the room next door was also missing one. Where were these tv remotes hiding?! Luckily it wasn't really an issue as we were hardly in the room, it just would have been nice to have the option. The breakfast was nice enough. There was a good choice for the hot buffet though healthy options were limited and some of the fruit was missing for ages, at least since 9ish. They finally stocked up on it at 9.55 - the service finishes at 10 so 10 minutes later they took it away again! We also had to stop someone to ask for coffee as we were never offered it. However what was provided i enjoyed. I unfortunately did not get the chance to use the pool/gym but they looked good. The checkout queue was long but I didn't mind, after all with a few weddings on it was expected that everyone would want to check out as late as possible! Overall I had a good time, just some renovation on the rooms and more staff present would have improved my experience and overall score. Collapse

For over a year my sisters and I planned a surprise party for our parents 25th Wedding Anniversary at this hotel, and right from the start Airth Castle were amazing. The venue was stunning, the staff were extremely helpful, and if I can mention Kelly in particular from the Events team, she deserves a huge shout of praise for her attention to detail and her willingness to help wherever she could! Compliments to the chef on the evening, not only for the meal tasting absolutely exquisite but also for the flexibility of catering for our gluten free and vegan guests! We can't thank the entire team at Airth Castle enough, we did manage to keep the surprise right to the last moment, and so well done and thank you to the staff for their discretion as well! Most of us stayed over, for ourselves our rooms were clean and comfortable with lovely views, and breakfast was very good. All in all, absolutely fantastic experience with everyone involved at Airth Castle. Collapse

Attended as a celebration of our 20th wedding anniversary, on arrival we were allocated a room in the castle building. The first thing that we had to come to terms with is that the castle building is a distance from the reception which could be a challenge in the somewhat changeable weather here in Scotland. The room we were allocated was number 7, now this is a warning for those of a less abled persuasion numbers 1-7 are on the top level, there is NO lift. It is several flights of stairs to the top and then along a quaint corridor to the room. The door room was lying ajar on arrival, it became clear as to why, the locking mechanism was malfunctioning and took ages to fix in order to secure. The room was compact but appeared in order, however the only window for natural light was a small one at head height. The view from the window was of a gutter and rage castle crenellations only, thankfully it opened as the heater in the room was unable to be adjusted. I tried due to the fact that the heat was unbearable, but to no effect in addition the window only has a small wooden slat blind which does not block out the light. It's the worst nights sleep I have had in some time, the bathroom was in the turret section, we had to call housekeeping immediately as the toilet seat had not been cleaned and there were stains on it. To be fair they attended promptly. The bath itself was in poor order with fixings missing or needing repair, the shower curtain was a shocker with a fair bit of mould on the bottom, not good enough. The curtain was held up on the most insecure rail i have seen and I had to adjust it continuously to enable me to take a shower. The shower head is secured quite low down so if you are over 5'10 you may struggle or have to hold it in a hand. There were two weddings when we were there which also added to the disappointment, there is only one way in and out of the castle building, as such we wee made to feel quite awkward as we tried to squeeze past the guests crowding the reception hall, indeed I could hear several comments from wedding guests. We felt somewhat of an inconvenience, I realise that hotels make a fair bit of cash from the wedding arena, but I do think consideration should be given to other paying guests. The only area it seems when weddings are on for having a drink or even a seat out with the castle, is along the road at the main building again meaning a weather dependant hike. Breakfast was again in the main building, which I cannot fault, nor I must add can I fault the staff the were polite, courteous and attentive. All in all a disappointing stay, we have emailed the hotel but no reply as yet. Collapse

Stayed here for a special occasion. The whole experience was absolutely horrendous. I do not understand how this hotel is even still in business this is the type of hotel Gordon Ramsey's Hotel Hell should absolutely consider visiting. We stayed in the hotel part not the castle. From the rotting maggot infested DEAD PIGEON (and general rubbish) outside the window, to windows which wouldn't open (but if a fire hazard and illegal surely?), to dust EVERYWHERE, broken furniture and lamp shades, to hair and mould and general filth in the bathroom. 4* really? We went to reception and asked to be moved rooms and explained why. The poor staff on reception seemed completely demoralised and were used to having to deal with things like this and said that the hotel was under renovation (this is apparently an excuse which has been thrown at customers for a while with no real substance - there was 1 renovated room but that was renovated because the room had been trashed apparently according to the staff). So we moved rooms, not much better. Then there was the spa, we had phoned ahead and pre booked treatments. Turned up and some problem with the booking system meant that we had to wait 2 HOURS for treatments due to double booking. The only saving grace of our stay was dinner, the restaurant staff were friendly, well trained and the food tasted lovely. I happened to mention everything to the waitress in the bar before we left and she said that everyone says that about the rooms etc. We also bumped into a woman in the toilets who had booked her wedding and was staying over night as a trial , she was in tears due to the experience she had had. Overall the stay left all of my party in tears as it completely spoiled what should have been a nice relaxing stay for a special occasion. Some money was deducted from our bill but that did not make up for what had happened at all. We didn't want money off the bill, we wanted the nice relaxing 4* hotel experience which had been advertised and which we had booked. We emailed the hotel on or return and guess what..........9 MONTHS later and no reply. Honestly 9 months later and I am still really upset by the whole experience and will NEVER ever set foot in the place again. We have the hotel every opportunity to fix things and their answer was to take money off the bill, that's fantastic customer service............. Avoid at all costs, you're better going elsewhere.
