Hotel was lovely, staff were excellent and breakfast was very tasty. The room itself was tired and dated, not even in keeping with the theme of the venue. The carpet had a rip in it at the bathroom door, the furniture was all marked and/or chipped, the 2 arm chairs were filthy and stained, the curtains were old and dull looking and the bed was very uncomfortable to the point I am still suffering with a sore shoulder. As there was a wedding on that same night we struggled with parking and my wife was disturbed on several occasions around 2-3am with drunken guests in the hall and next door. Collapse

We took friends for a Birthday lunch at The Grill and the service was very poor from start to finish. Firstly the correct lunch menus could not be found and we were told there was no provision for leaving our wet coats other than on the backs of our chairs. There followed a series of mistakes in our orders, the most significant being that one member of our party had the wrong main course served so she ended up eating her correct main course once we had finished ours. We did complain and while the supervisor was very apologetic she did not return to check that things had improved - and they had not! Overall very disappointing. We will not return and could not recommend this venue to others. Collapse

Upon entering the room we were overwhelmed by the smell caused by heavy use of a spraygun. We tried to open the window. Only with help of the staff we were able to do so. The checkin lady was not very helpful in answering additional requests. Our friends were more lucky in finding helpful staff and were able to find a plug to charge their electric cars. Having read the negative reviews about staying in the castle, I guess we were lucky in getting a room in the hotel. Also the hotel corridors are perfumed. Room was ok, shower very powerful, twin beds ok. Good breakfast. Lots of weddings taking place here with the happy people being part of it Collapse

Our large family occupied 4 Castle rooms for a 2-night stay. We purposely chose the castle rooms because we thought they'd have more charm than the standard rooms in the newer addition. Had we known there is no internet at all in the castle rooms, we would not have stayed at Airth. (They told us this was due to the "thick stone walls" but being a techie I know there are ways to get around this.) There were other problems. Our very spacious 4-poster king room looked pretty on entering, with clean light colored carpeting, tartan drapes and bedcover, and a large matching sofa and arm chair. However we soon realized there was no place to put a suitcase except on the floor, and we had two suitcases -- we used the ironing board for one of them and the other sat on the floor. The recessed lighting in the ceiling was great, but there was only a single table lamp for the entire room, meaning one of us got to read at night and one didn't. The castle is old, and we didn't expect flawless surroundings, but we also didn't expect the the window casings in our room to be patched with wadded-up tissue paper and masking tape. The bathroom was pretty gross - it had luxurious tiled floor and walls and shiny chrome fixtures, but the ceiling above the shower was stained with large patches of black mildew, as was the grout on the tiled shower walls. The soap dish contained the previous occupant's shampoo cap floating in a half inch of water. Ugh. A few words about the Grill. Some of the dishes were quite good - the roasted salmon, the onion rings. Other dishes were not at all good, such as a tasteless seafood chowder that was poured with fanfare from a small pitcher into the bowl. The breakfast buffet (which is not mentioned at all on the website -- we had to email ahead of time to make sure we could eat in the mornings) ran out of the good stuff quickly and was not replenished. It featured a warming dish of scrambled eggs that were apparently the powdered type served in Reno casino buffets. The young, inexperienced restaurant staff is friendly but very disorganized, with multiple servers taking orders seemingly without any coordination amongst each other. We asked one server about the appetizers we'd ordered early on, that had not appeared by the time the main courses were served. That server disappeared into the kitchen, and a different server brought our appetizers, followed shortly after by a third server who showed up with a duplicate order of the appetizers and insisted a bit rudely that we had ordered them all - there was no mistake. The Airth Castle & Spa wants to be viewed as a luxury resort, and it does have some of the trappings. It must be a beautiful background for wedding photos, but it is not a nice place to spend the night. It felt like a bait and switch. Pretty pictures and grand descriptions on the website but no mention about the lack of wifi or the disappearing breakfast buffet. Too bad this pretty hotel is so poorly managed. Collapse

Our first visit to this hotel and definitely not our last. From the moment we checked in until we left the staff were friendly, courteous and helpful. We were in a 2day mini break dinner bed and breakfast, the choice and quality of food was excellent and even the bar prices were a pleasant surprise in comparison to other hotels of the same standard. Our room was clean comfortable and spacious, only tiny blip was only shampoo and conditioner in bathroom no shower gel or moisturiser small thing but makes a difference. Oh and a mini fridge would have been good. Overall rested relaxed and thoroughly enjoyed leisure facilities. Collapse

Grounds are beautiful, unfortunately not so much for the rooms. We had 3 rooms and our stay was for 9 days. There was an issue with all 3 that were not tended to, not even when management was brought in. One of our rooms were as hot as a sauna, an issue with the towel rack heated the room so much so several fans were required to run at all times with the window remaining open. Had to stay in this room for the duration of our trip due to no available rooms. All 3 of the rooms were not cleaned daily, sheets and towels not changed for days, counters not wiped down, floors not vacuumed. Shampoos, conditioners, soap, coffee/tea service not refilled daily. There was mold in the bathrooms, dripping faucets and lights with no bulbs. Informing the staff did not do much. We were always promised the issue would be handled but to no avail. It was a real let down. In the evening the bar area is overseen by a very young group of employees that do not have much knowledge in cocktails. They are far too busy acting inappropriately flirting with one another to take your order. Much different group in the day serving breakfast. Accommodating and friendly.Traveled from over the pond for a trip of a lifetime and it was not a fairytale come true at Airth Castle. Collapse
