This hotel is located on 7th Avenue, W 31st Street. The location is enviably positioned just a 5 minute walk from Macy’s and opposite Madison Square Garden and Penn Street Station. Only a 5-10 minute stroll to Times Square. The location is probably as good as it gets for this hotel. The rooms are nothing like the modern, clean, white rooms on the website and you’ll be bitterly disappointed if you’re hoping for anything similar to the hotel pictures on the website! The window is filthy, covered in black dust with an off-white/yellow pull down blind and with 50% of the window blocked with a very old fashioned air conditioning unit. Don’t be hoping for a view if you’re in a room like ours (Deluxe double room 1106) we had to climb behind the desk and clamber amongst various wires just to get a glimpse of the outside and to open and close the blind. Bathroom appeared clean enough and shower worked fine but in the corners the build up of dust and dirt wasn’t acceptable for even a 2 star accommodation. There was dried blood on the floor too! The beds were comfortable and in a deluxe double you get 2 double beds so this was good and I slept quite well during my stay apart from the constant sirens and our daily 7am wake up call of church bells but this is New York and you will need ear plugs! Elevators worked well and there was never a wait to go up or down to the lobby. Always carry your room key when going up as you will need to insert this before pushing the button for your selected floor. Quite disappointed nothing was done to acknowledge my 30th Birthday despite emailing ahead of our stay but I can’t really mark the hotel down for this as I realise nothing can be guaranteed. Beware of arranging your return to the airport with the doorman. He told us the private car is around the same price as a yellow cab to the airport and we would have more room. Asked for a price comparison and he told us around $100 to go in a yellow cab to Newark airport or $85 plus toll plus tip. We therefore went with the private car option as tolls on the way in were around $20. Imagine our surprise when our fare came to $142 excluding tip!!! We were stung bad so ensure you pre book transfers if you can. Finally the bar was excellent with fantastic staff and reasonably priced drinks. Definitely worth a visit! This hotel is very expensive for what it is. Please research thoroughly before booking. Collapse

I travel to NYC several times per year for work. I have been doing this for almost 20 years. The Stewart Hotel (various names over the years) has always been my preferred hotel. A few times over the years, either cost or availability, has caused me to go to another hotel. And each time, it just confirms my main stay at Stewart. Reasons I like: location, kitchen, comfort of beds. But most of all, it has been the employees and service I receive. I always feel welcomed and appreciated. And while I noted that the hotel name has changed over the years, most the employees have remained the same. Good decision by management. :) Added thanks to Jenny & Diesel who always make me smile and feel important! Collapse

I went on holiday recently to New York and came across The Stewart as a suggestion. I enjoyed every minute of it! It was in a perfect location, it was just opposite MSG and right next to Macy's. It's also a 10 minute walk to Times Square! It was clean and tidy. Our room was spacious. We had 4 people staying in the room and it never felt like a squash. The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially the cleaners! I would happily stay there again. I felt like I got very good value for money. Collapse

Stayed here for 6 nights and can not believe how nice and helpful the staff were at this hotel. Location fantastic price brillant, staff amazing. Right next door to Penn station and also next door to Macy’s. We had a problem with the room being to hot and it was taken care off straight away. Bradley checked us in and was so helpful and pleasant. He answered every question I put to him and even gave me a fantastic upgrade. The room was massive room 2727. Views amazing. The only downside is the noise from the street but then you are in the main area. Got used to it after the 1st but they do issue you with ear plugs if you find it to loud. The Resturant served very nice breakfast with a great selection. I would highly recommend this hotel for family’s couples, and friends who want great shopping. The hotel has wonderful staff that means a lot in New York because once you step outside it’s a different matter. Room has Air con but can be a bit noisy. Collapse

We had the good fortune to stay at the Stewart recently. The hotel couldn’t be more convenient if you’re arriving at Penn Station. We arrived around 1 pm and were not only able to get an early check-in, but when the reception heard we had just celebrated my husband’s birthday, we were upgraded to a 1-bedroom suite. The room was spacious and tastefully decorated, definitely not your typical Manhattan box (and bigger than my first “junior” apartment). On top of that, the hotel even surprised us with a birthday cake and a bottle of wine. The Stewart made us feel like special friends returning for a visit, and we will certainly do so the next time we’re in New York. Collapse
