We have tried this hotel terrace restaurant before but doubt again. Our lunchtime food was dreadful - the waitress was very sweet and we couldn't bear to break the news. The special tuna + daurade was just about ok but the St Pierre specially ordered off menu was awful. Restaurant terrace next to the pool needs a major makeover and a new chef would be a start. We had been a Nice a week earlier and stayed at the Hyatt Regency on Promenade des Anglais. I had no problem finding the hotel, visually and with GPS in our car. As we drove back from Italy I programmed in the address of the hotel on Promenade des Anglais. We slowed down as we approached the address, looking for the hotel but not seeing it as the GPS announced "you are reached your destination" We circled around and while resetting for another pass called the hotel for directions/hints. The front desk person that answered, Elaine as we learned later, was absolutely no help what so ever. She asked if I had GPS which I explained I did and then gave me the address (which of course was already programmed in) She then asked what street I was currently on and I told her. She proceeded to give me instructions that were not possible, there was street construction going on in the area. She then gave me over to the Valet, Farhat, who was the first and only helpful person at the hotel. He explained that the hotel was not actually on Promenade des Anglais (the address is apparently a vanity thing) but behind a building and actually we needed to turn right on Rue Honore Sauvan. Why the front desk staff did not know or mention that is beyond me? Also there was a construction barrier blocking a right turn onto the straight but Farhat told me that I could ignore that, drive on the wrong side of the street to go around the barrier and that would get me to the hotel. Again why no else that answered the phone (looking at your Elaine) thought to mention that fact? Eventually we got to the hotel. The room was not ready, which was fine, so we ordered some drinks in the lobby bar. Our room had been assigned but housekeeping was still working on it. I went to the front desk and asked explained to Elaine that I had ordered drinks in the lobby. She proceeded to tell me that I couldn't and had to go to the roof top bar. I had to explain to her that I could and did order drinks and they were being delivered. I then asked if I could charge the drinks to my room. She then explained how one would charge a bar item to a room, writing your name and room number on the receipt. Let's stop right there. I am a Marriott and SPG platinum member. I mention that only to indicate that I stay in hotels a lot. Also I'm in my 50s so this isn't the first time I've ordered and charged food in a hotel. Elaine knew I was a Platinum member but continued to lecture me on the procedure for charging food, which wasn't my question. I gave up and paid cash. I recount this story only to indicate how dense Elaine was and how it contributes to a terrible guest experience at this hotel. Farhat the Valet was wonderful and was the only reason we didn't decamp for the Hyatt we had stayed at earlier. The room was fine with a good view of the ocean on the 7th floor. Excellent AC hotel bed. The complimentary breakfast was good with a wide variety of foods and good wait service. In conclusion the experience was marred significantly by poor front desk staff. It would be good to have all front desk staff explain as Farhat did that the hotel is NOT on Promenade des Anglais. Collapse

This great hotel is imho almost perfect for a stay in lovely Nice, however..... Other reviews are accurate in that it takes at least a 20 minutes walk to get to the old town, station, major shopping areas, etc, etc. Although the walk either along the promonade or away from the front are both beautiful and interesting, the 20 - 30 mins stroll EVERY day became a bit of a pain, and if we should visit Nice again, we would definitely look to stay somewhere a little more central. It also didn't help that due to major tram engineering works (a little too noisy on nights 1 and 2), some public transport had been re-routed and/or stopped running. But, there are LOADS of good bits about this hotel too!! All of the staff who we encountered were both very friendly and helpful. The hotel itself was immaculately clean throughout, the room was very well appointed, the bed was huge and super-comfortable, and the choice of breakfast brilliant! The pool on the rooftop was more than ample as was the seating, and the views are spectacular. Worth noting that the rooftop restaurant is the ONLY place to eat after breakfast, and nice as it was, and reasonably priced as it was, I expected there to be a 'lounge bar/restaurant' as mentioned in other reviews - this only opens in the colder months, when the rooftop offer is closed. I felt this was a lost opportunity for the hotel, as to get a quick snack was not really possible. Check in and out was a breeze. Free WiFi in public areas was fine, its FREE in your room too if you are a Marriott Club member (free to join), so worth doing that to save the 12 euros per day :-) Collapse
