For all intents and purpose, this is a fine hotel. The staff is nice, the property is clean, the rooms are large, etc. It's really a nice place. However, we had two BIG problems with it: 1. WiFi - or rather, the lack of. We paid for a "super superior deluxe" room, only to find that there was almost NO WiFi signal in the room. Only to find more that there was almost NO WiFi signal most places in the hotel. In today's day and age, this is ABSOLUTELY NO OK. Worse, the staff didn't care. Unfortunately, for me, we were UNABLE to complete some necessary travel arrangements because of no Internet access. 2. In the bathroom, in front of the toilet, attached to the FLOOR, is a DOOR STOP. It's about 1" wide and 1.5" tall. And it's located in such a place that is right in the way of you walking into the bathroom...like at night when the light is off, and kicking this door stop with your toe. PAINFUL. The fact that the hotel allowed these door stops to be installed is just short of criminal - the manager should be required to kick it with his own toe to see how it feels, and to see just how stupid of a place it is located. Sorry, guys, I easily could have rated you 5 stars. You only get 1--and that's generous. Actually, I think you really owe me a refund of the 91Euros I spent. Collapse
Ants, noise but maybe the best you'll get in the area

We used the hotel as a base for 4 nights while we were visiting Gibraltar for my girlfriends 21st birthday, we booked it because it had the Marriott name so thought the standards would be high. Unfortunately, it fell far below our expectations, while the reception staff were helpful at times everything else needs improvements. We had decided to pay extra for a larger room with a sea view at 85 euros per night, we both wish we hadn’t bothered. While the room was large with plenty of space it wasn’t what I would call a traditional sea view as there is a building in front of it. When we booked directly on the website we stated our preference for a room at the top of the hotel but we go one at the lowest floor possible, I get that is just a preference and not a given but still felt a bit disappointed. When we arrived at the room it looked clean, one first night there was an ant on the bed we removed it thinking it was a one-off. We were sadly mistaken. On the second night, we came back and there was a whole family of ant all over the floor at least 10 of them. I popped down to the reception to ask them to do something and took one of the ants with me to show them, their answer? Here have this bug spray, if they continue we will look at it tomorrow. He also accused me of having food in the food and that’s why they were there. We didn’t. So I went back and sprayed the whole room, no one asked us again so each night as we got in I sprayed the whole room. We asked for towels on the booking form but didn’t get them either so we had to go down to reception to ask them. When the room was cleaned the extra towel was taken away but not replaced so we had to go down yet again. On the first night we were there only two TV channels were working, we didn’t talk to the reception as it was late thankful when we turned it on the next night it was fixed, someone else must have noticed too. Each morning we were woken by toilets flushing from the floors above and people talking and walking around on our floor. We decided to have a meal at the restaurant as we didn’t want to venture into the local area to find a restaurant as it didn’t feel very safe in the area. We entered the restaurant area, a few people were eating but there was no staff around, after waiting a few minutes we went to the reception to see if they had stopped serving (it was 9pm) but he said they are open another hour and a half. He walked into the back area and was shouting at someone and a lady came out seated us and gave us a menu. We both ordered the tagliatelle bolognese, mine was okay but nothing special but my girlfriends were undercooked the pasta was solid and stuck together, we didn’t bother going again just stayed later in Gibraltar and tried the food there. We didn't have any breakfast and the pool was disappointingly closed at 16 degrees the weather was certainly warm enough for us to swim so we have no comments there. A taxi from the border was around 5 euros, if you are travelling from Gibraltar airport cross the border (Frontier) on foot then get a taxi as the taxis in Gibraltar will not (possibly cannot) cross the border. We hired a car for some of the days, it cost us 9 euros per day to park there but each time we wanted to enter we had to get out and go into the hotel as they ignored the buzzer each time. I think if we visit Gibraltar again we will stay in there, we were persuaded by the Marriott name but it didn’t live up to expectations. Collapse

This Marriott hotel is probably the best you can get in La Linea or that close to Gibraltar. The service was excellent, staff very helpful and friendly (also for breakfast) and views from the room unbeatable (and included in the price....). The slight minus is the upgrade they are doing now. Little discomfort you will have to live with as the improvements will add value but not price. Tip: park your car either inside or on the square in front of the hotel and avoid breakfast between 7am and 8am. Due to the renovations, temporarily breakfast in room 110 but doable and nice views (see pics). Will come back for sure. Collapse

We had a pleasant enough stay in this hotel. The room was clean and modern and the bathroom was nice. However, I was surprised that it has been awarded four star - I felt I was in a 3*. Ther is no safe in the bedroom and the hotel information booklet is generic to AC Hotels not this particular hotel. In fact some information about the local area would be useful - a map, info about shop opening hours, the nearest pharmacy, bus information, local attractions etc. The hotel information is also lacking - We had to ask where the gym is and could not find any information about the evening meal - times, menu etc so chose to eat out at night. The buffet breakfast is continental apart from some scrambled eggs that I never saw refreshed. My husband would have loved some bacon. We had a pleasant enough stay but I feel the hotel could easily make these few improvements. Collapse

The AC Hotel La Linea, is probably one of the finer choices available in this area and specially with some attractive rates. Nothing fancy but a solid 3 star product just in the second row of the sea promenade with a outdoor pool, in a quiet, not so fortunate residential area, about 1 km from the City center of La Linea de la Conception and 2 km to the Boarder and Airport of Gibraltar. (15-20 min walking time, if you wanna leave the car at or near the Hotel. Parking avbl. @ €9.- 24/h or free street parking) This 4 floor hotel offers different rooms, some of them with balconies and even from the upper floors with sea/the rock views. They have a large build in closet, work desk, minibar, chair and table and rather small flatscreen TV with some international channels, AC, but no safe. The bathroom has a tub, glass sink, toilet and bidet. Breakfast is available in the ground floor breakfast room with a nice and fresh choice of the traditional Spanish breakfast selection and nice Nespresso coffee. Collapse
