I stay here most of the time I come to Aberdeen to see my daughter. It is a bit tired in terms of decor however I find the staff extremely helpful. I'm in the Marriott rewards scheme and each time, including this one, I have booked they upgraded my room, which is always nice. You get a good quality breakfast and at present most rooms are relatively cheap. I found this very comfortable, friendly and excellent value for money. I booked through Marriott website. My rating reflects value for money. Collapse
Good stay but let down by food

Stayed here with my girlfriend for a night on Saturday 4th Feb. I've been staying at this hotel with family for many years and have started staying with my girlfriend since we moved up to Aberdeen. On this particular stay we asked for room 200 as we liked it last time, we were given a similar sized room as it was occupied. Staff at check in were friendly and professional. We were given room 203 which was a large executive room, the bed was spacious and comfortable and the room had a good sized bathroom with a bath and shower combination. We also received comfortable bathrobes and slippers. Although the room was directly above the function suite entrance and there was an event on, there wasn't too much noise that we noticed. The selection of food available from the in room dining menu was good, but think the prices of some of the food items and the £4 tray charge for room service is a little steep. We went for breakfast in the restaurant the next morning. It was quiet with only a few other guests. There was a good choice of hot food and pastries, cereals etc. The only downside was that the sausages hadn't been cooked and turned evenly, so one side was well cooked and the other side looked in-edible (this is something that has been highlighted by myself and numerous other guests during prior stays and still hasn't been resolved). It was also disappointing to see that they have permanently closed the Executive Lounge. This was a regularly used facility for gold and platinum Marriott Rewards members who are now missing out on this. Check out staff were professional and polite. All in all, it was a good stay but there could still be improvements made in respect to food. Collapse

This is my second review of The Marriott Aberdeen, the first one probably six months ago. I am a platinum card holder and stay here very regularly. All the staff here are truly excellent and the management should have every reason to be proud of them. First impressions are hugely important and the staff on the front desk are spot on. It's a shame to see that a couple of the front desk guys have moved on since December, regulars like myself miss them, but their colleagues are equally a delight to deal with and go that extra mile to make your stay a pleasant experience. I would like to name them all, but one example of going that extra mile, was early in December, I had the most atrocious cold and chest infection, having just eaten in the bar, Madara, without any prompting, brought me a mug of honey and lemon, that was such a thoughtful thing to do. The hotel itself could do with a bit of a facelift, having said that, housekeeping do keep it spotless and the beds are super comfortable. The only thing that disappoints me, is lack of consistency with the quality of the steaks, which something I commented on in my last review. I had an excellent sirloin about two weeks ago, truly very good, perfectly cooked medium rare, full of flavour and tender. A few days later, based on my previous experience, I had the same again and it was poor, and this evening, I ordered a rib eye, which was so so. At £25 or thereabouts, I feel it ought to be something to look forward to and enjoy. I appreciate that sirloin and rib eye have a superior flavour to fillet, but at least with fillet steak, you do seem to get a consistency of quality, if other places locally are able to put fillet steak on their menu at around the same price I paid for my steaks here, surely The Marriott could offer it. That is my only criticism of the food, the fish and chips, chicken, burgers are excellent as is everything else on the menu. Don't let my comments about the steaks put you off staying here, I am in fact, staying here next week for seven nights on business, whether I take a chance on a steak, remains to be seen ! Collapse
