MONDAY NOTES
|
POSSIBLE PICKUPS…
Word is Ricky Williams will play Monday against the Steelers. Based on how he looks and how Jesse Chatman comes around, Williams could be valuable in week 13 against the
Jets.
With Cedric Benson (left ankle) very possibly out for the season, the Bears Adrian Peterson
is certainly going to be a hot pickup this week.
With both Anthony Thomas (calf) and rookie RB Marshawn Lynch (ankle) questionable for week 13, keep your eye on Bills RB
Fred Jackson; he’s shown some nice moves and decent hands in limited work this year.
The Titans Chris Brown is one injury away from getting 20+ carries a game. If you have some roster room, give it some consideration.
With Reggie Bush looking more like a third-down back this past weekend, Aaron Stecker
is certainly worth a look in deep leagues.
Coach Dick Jauron announced that Trent Edwards will start over J.P. Losman this weekend. If you need to reach, keep an eye on Edwards but the Bills face the Redskins secondary this weekend.
Also at QB, Jason Campbell continues to put up decent fantasy numbers. If you really need to reach, monitor QB Marc Bulger’s health and consider taking a flyer on veteran QB
Gus Frerotte.
The Broncos RB position is very messy right now. Andre Hall looked good filling in for Travis Henry (left knee) and Selvin Young (right knee). However, Hall sprained his ankle
Sunday against the Bears and will be evaluated more Monday.
On the Travis Henry front, the Broncos are expecting to be notified this week, possibly as soon as Monday, regarding whether Henry won his appeal or if he'll face a yearlong suspension. Coach Shanahan claims if he believed Henry had failed a test for smoking marijuana, the running back would have been released.
KC RB Kolby Smith piled up 152 yards and 2 TDs in his first NFL start. But here is the real news – he looked even better than his stats would indicate. Smith showed great cutback ability and excellent body lean; that’s impressive in our book, regardless of opponent. Next up for Smith, the
Chargers and Broncos.
TE Tony Scheffler continues to put up nice numbers and remains a very viable pickup.
At QB, Matt Schaub remains a strong pickup if you can still land him.
If you’re looking for a one-week plug in at TE, Carolina plays the 49ers this
week so
Jeff King might fill the gap. Likewise, TE Leonard Pope vs. CLE this weekend looks to be a decent matchup.
While he didn’t do that much against the Vikings, as the Giants got blown out at home Sunday,
Reuben Droughns remains someone to grab if you can. As long as Jacobs and Ward are hurting, Droughns has value as a decent flex or #3 RB.
At WR, the Lions seem to be determined to feature Calvin Johnson more moving forward this year. While the rookie has
dropped his share, he has value in Detroit’s system.
Rookie WR Anthony Gonzalez of Indy showed he’s coming of age and with Marvin Harrison questionable, the rookie has some value as a wire pickup in deeper leagues.
He’s doing more and more each week, so WR Justin Gage of Tennessee is worth watching if you need help at WR.
With DJ Hackett (ankle) hurting, Bobby Engram and Nate Burleson take a bump up.
