London For New Year 2012

out of 5We travelled by car and arrived at the novotel too early to check-in. Wasn't a problem, the staff gave receipts for our cases and kept them safe. We had a blue badge for our car and was able to park directly outside the hotel, for free, all weekend! The train station is next to the hotel, which was so handy! the train station staff were very helpful. One good tip - if you are visiting any major attractions, pick up a leaflet in the train station when buying your train tickets, there is a voucher for bogof in the back, very handy if you have a family. We visited greenwich market, which is really sweet. After we checked in, we got the train into London and visited hamleys - which was far too busy. We went for an indian meal and then to see matilda the musical. We had two 11 year olds with us, and we all enjoyed the theatre. The next day, after a hearty breakfast (new year's eve), we went to the dungeons. A very long queue, so take something to entertain the kids! The experience was fab! We returned to the hotel for a rest and change, in anticipation of the fireworks. We went down northumberland ave and turned right, so we had a birds-eye view of the London eye. We arrived at 6.45pm, and already the best spots were taken. As the time went on, it got so busy that we were being squashed! not pleasant for the kids. We ended up getting separated, dad with daughter, mum with son. Orange signal was down, so was bbm. Managed to use a vodafone, thanks to a kind stranger, and arranged to re-unite. Trains were announced as being on strike from midnight. We decided to go back to hotel, as would struggle to get back to greenwich after midnight. Watched fireworks at hotel. Had a great breakfast new year's day and checked-out. Left car outside and went to harrods for the sale. Got train back to collect car and headed home. We had a fantastic time!.

out of 5The hotel novotel excel was good apart from the room on the 9th floor. The room was ok but they were decorating the 9th floor and all we could smell was the turps which didn't go down well with my partner.

out of 5Great stay, room wasn't prepared for 3 people but this was very quickly sorted by a very nice lady from housekeeping. Hotel great, very clean, food excellent. We went to see the musical wicked, which was fantastic. We also fitted in a visit to the british museum which was superb, a flying visit to a very disappointing harrods and a lovely walk through London from the british museum to the theatre for the matinee. Used the dlr and the tube, no major problems except for some line closures.

out of 5Took the family to watch the wrestling at the o2. The kids loved it the o2 was great and the hotel was superb. Easy to get to by car and safe parking. Only mistake was that the dlr was not working and had to take a taxi to the o2 from the hotel and back which was quite expensive.
