Having travelled from fife up to inverness and then on to ullapool, we were glad to get a good cup of tea in our hotel room. We took a look at the evening meal menu and decided to stay at the hotel. Meals were excellent. There was even proper scottish musical entertainment provided by an excellent harmonium player which was a real treat. If more people visited the caledonian hotel, the owners would be able to spend a little bit of money making a few decor improvements as it was a bit tired, but for us, the weekend was a huge success. Took ferry to stornaway it was a beautiful day saw dolphins swimming. Taken round island by bus very interesting tour great day overall. We had a good view from hotel room, although hotel requires up grading no tomato juice at breakfast.

The Caledonian presents a traditional Scottish hotel experience and offers excellent value for money (especially when booked through Superbreak!). I always use this hotel as a 'stop-over' point when travelling to the outer hebrides - and the fact that I always return, is my best recommendation. It's only fault - which is actually not the fault of the hotel - is that if your room is situated on the seaward side, there is the constant distant noise of refrigerated engines, emanating from trucks parked in the nearby lorry park overnight, awaiting the ferry. They make just enough noise to be slightly annoying - take some ear plugs.

Hotel was adequate for our purpose but away from reception area the furniture and fittings were tired and in need of a make-over. Breakfast was good but restaurant was closed for evening meals.
