Having just visited the capital, I found that the prices of cafes seemed to have come down in price and the value of money was better than in previous years

New Years Eve needed to be different this year and there was no better place than London for an uplifting start to the New Year. We arrived just after lunch and checked into our plush Hotel in Marble Arch only yards from the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street and the Christmas sales. Having dropped off our overnight bags, we were off to the shops snapping up bargains and working up an appetite. We refreshed ourselves with a meal in a lovely restaurant just off Carnaby Street before heading back to the Hotel to get ready for the nights celebrations. The walk through London at night was fabulous, with all traffic banished from the streets and with the population in a party mood we made our way to the Victoria Embankment. We stopped at the ice rink and festivities in Hyde Park before strolling passed Big Ben to take our place amongst the crowds opposite the London Eye. As midnight struck a spectacle to behold was unleashed over the River Thames. The firework display we had often seen on television unfolded before us. No camera has ever have done justice to what we observed first hand. The firework display was truly a work of art and in itself worth every penny spent on the trip. Once the champagne corks had stopped popping and the music began to die down we ambled back to the Hotel, passed Buckingham Palace and the revellers partying in the royal parks. It was a trip that will live long in the memory and without doubt one that will be repeated (hopefully next New Year!)

My family and I had a great time in London although it was too overcrowded. The fireworks were great but I have to admit I prefer my own in Funchal,Madeira island. We saw the superb Phantom of the Opera and my daughters The Lion King!Visited The Tutankhanum exhibition and The First Emperor Terracotta Army. I would expect a bit more but they were good! THe Hotel was good and the staff very helpful and welcoming. We were to museums and just scroll on the streets.London is a great capital always with something to offer.I'm never tired of London! If I had opportunity( and money) I would go there again and again....

Actually stayed at Hyatt Regency Churchill (transferred due to heavy booking - conferences) - no complaints there - superb accommodation and service. Great day's shopping around Oxford St. & Baker Street. Super meal at Bella Italia. Great show. Very comfortable overnight stay, great breakfast choices, followed by independent visit to Tutankhamun at O2. Cannot emphasise too greatly what a great spectacle this is, with superb commentary from Omar Sharif. Well set out, well organised, and well worth a visit! Looking forward to the Terracotta Army in February!!
