out of 5We meet up with my youngest and her partner. York is a lovely place with lots to see. A lot of the city centre pubs are quite small, but serve a good range of real ales. There is a good range of places to eat. Lucia's serve a good variety of dishes at a reasonable price. The elmbank hotel is to be avoided at all costs. It is very noisy - you can hear other guests going about their daily chores as if they were in the same room. Our room had a strange odour and the shower was extremely small. The breakfast was okay, till we saw the waiter topping up the serving hot tray. Basic food hygiene is not practised at this hotel. And contrary to the hotel description, it is at least 15 mins walk from York centre.

out of 5Elmbank hotel very "old world" inside and lovely downstaris area to sit in by log fire. Problems parking some days if went out in car. My only complaint was that didn't get room requested (family) so we were split between 2 rooms. My wife having bad knees found the stairs difficult as majority of them there is no handrail to hold onto. One day we hadn't ben cleaned in one of rooms, but once advised reception needed new cups and tea/coffee, the staff were straight onto it. Only 20 minute walk away from town centre, and regular buses pass end of road all day/evening.

out of 5Loads of things to do and see. Open top bus is a must. Shambles are great. Loads for kids to do and see. Hotel looked very elegant but we were in the back which was extended after original house and floors creaked all the time. Not dirty but could write your name on the dust on the window ledge. Left a pillow out its case 3 nights so cleaner could see stains - but just put back in case again. Restaurant staff excellent and couldn't have been more helpful. Good 15 mins walk to centre but mostly flat so not too bad.
