Mamma Mia! Review - Super-Trooper!

Mamma Mia! The Musical is a fun, light-hearted 'feel good' show. The story is simple; a young girl on the eve of her marriage is determined to discover which of three gentlemen is her father, so she invites them to the big event using the guise of her mother's name. Yet the seemingly basic formula is so fabulously complemented by the songs and music that it works on every level. The performances from the leads and supporting cast were lively, energetic, passionate and endearing. And of course, the plethora of ABBA songs meant it was a show that everybody, young and old, could enjoy. I was drawn in from the moment the lights dimmed, and had a smile on my face from beginning to end. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and it was a treat to be able to sing along with the cast at the final performance. I will definitely recommend the show to others. On a scale of 1 - 5, I give it full marks: 5 out of 5 (plus bonus points for the silver go-go boots, which I would have loved to take home with me). The only downside to the performance was when the curtain came down at the end of the show - I could have watched it all night, and I'm sure I'm not the only one!

Simply fantastic. Ten years old and Mamma Mia still packs in more fun than any other show in London. I am even tempted to say its got better! The Prince of Wales is one of London's most comfortable theatres, the sound is suitably LOUD and the lighting superb. What happens on stage is just pure entertainment. Last night we laughed, we danced and we clapped our thunderous applause as Benny and Bjorn took to the stage. What a great night. What a great show. From a guy that has never owned an ABBA record or CD that is high praise. I loved it.

You Don't Have To Like Abba

Thing is, I am not now and have never been an Abba fan, but the performance last week was simply sensational. More importantly, it was a fantastic night out. The Prince of Wales has got to be one of the most beautiful buildings in the whole of London, Linzi Hately, the leading lady, has to be one of the greatest musical theatre stars of the last ten years -and I have got to buy four tickets because I want my family to see this great British Musical (sorry Sweden!)

What can we say I still keep thinking about the great show and we would have rebooked for the Evening show again but the tickets were sold out. I still keep singing the songs. The theatre facilities were 1st class. After the Matinee we decided that we would like the Hardback Mammia Mia book so we went back and the Manager arranged for us to go before the evening preformance to buy one. They were very helpful.

The Prince of Wales Theater close to Picadilly Circus, really easy to get to via the tube and a well preserved theatre. Mama Mia wouldn't have been my first choice of show to see but it was a present for my wife. That said it was a truly fantastic, really feel good show that had the whole audience bouncing. In the end I found it a surprisingly enjoyable show and one I would recommend to anyone.
