About Country Girl
Country Girl tells tragic tale of the once great theatre star Frank Elgin who is now a washed-up, has been actor with just one last chance to save his career and make it big. With a serve addiction to alcohol and no confidence, Frank has little to pin his hopes on but may make it through if he can re-gain the support, admiration and love of his long suffering and bitter wife Georgia.
A tale of hardship, alcoholism and failure, Country Girl is a heart wrenching play and one of Clifford Odets’ finest pieces of work. Best known as a multi Oscar Award winning film starring Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly in 1954, this modern performance has a lot to live up to but does so with excellent direction from the critically acclaimed Rufus Norris.
This new adaptation at the Apollo Theatre in London is also enhanced by 2 fabulous performances from the renowned Martin Shaw and Jenny Seagrove. Neither are strangers to the West End and in Country Girl it shows with both producing outstanding, believable and emotional performances.
The Country Girl play is perfect for fans of drama, tragedy and beautiful writing. Odets’ play and the Oscar Award winning film are both truly honoured in what is a moving, enticing and altogether brilliant stage show.
