The room was great although in need of updating. Quiet large room. Lack of staff in restaurants for lunch dinner and breakfast, but once in service was good and food was very good. Spa was excellent, gym not bad for a hotel. Not quite in the country side the pictures and write up suggests.

The hotel room was comfortable and clean, although the bathroom and shower were a bit tired and could have done with being updated. Breakfast was plentiful with a great choice. The restaurant food was good and the staff efficient, although the music was too loud and not particularly suitable for a relaxed dining experience. We did not use the leisure facilities but they looked good. All staff were polite and courteous although the receptionist, when asked about local cinema, didn't offer to look up on the internet but ponted us towards the local newspaper. Overall a very pleaseant stay and in fact we have booked to go back again, this time with our 3 children.

The volcanic ash from Iceland curtailed our holiday plans to Malta,so we decided to go to Suffolk because it is a part of the country we had not previously visited. Our hotel was comfortable, well appointed with a lovely pool, steam room, sauna and gym. The staff on reception were friendly and helpful. The room well serviced every day and staff in the restaurant very pleasant. The breakfasts were very good each morning but we did not accept the quality of the restaurant food on our second visit to the restaurant one evening. The standard was poor and we did not enjoy our evening. We did go to the Mariners in the marina and had the most wonderful dining experience. Tthe restaurant is french and the quality of the food exceptional as was the ambience and all the staff. The evening was truly lovely and well worth a visit but do book!! We also visited Colchester zoo which was a lovely day out and well worth a trip.

The hotel was such a bargain that we were a bit suspicious of what we would get for our money. A broom cupboard or a shed in the car park, but no, we were so impressed with the room - lovely and clean and spacious. Without exception, the staff were polite and helpful, from the reception staff when we arrived to the restaurant staff at dinner and breakfast, and the cheerful chambermaids in the corridors. Will definitely be returning.
