About Blithe Spirit
Arguably Noel Coward’s greatest play, Blithe Spirit, London is a fascinating tale of love, life and the afterlife. The story follows the novelist Charles Condomine, who in search of inspiration for his next book invites an eccentric medium to a dinner party.
However, the mood soon turns ill for Charles and his second wife Ruth when the ghost of Charles’s first wife Elvira is summoned from the afterlife. With logic and reason in mind, the couple determines that this is all a hoax to entertain the guest. That is until Charles begins to see the ghost of Elvira.
Only Charles can see Elvira and now that she’s back in his life she will do everything she can to sabotage his new marriage. All Charles wanted was material for a new novel but now life and the afterlife are in complete disarray!
Intelligent, witty and beautifully dark, Blithe Spirit is the fabulous comedic play by the superb play write Noel Coward. With superb direction by Thea Sharrock and stunning performances by Alison Steadman (Madame Arcati ), Ruthie Henshall (Elvira), Hermione Norris (Ruth Condomine), Blithe Spirit, London has been given a new lease of life in the Apollo Theatre in London.
