3 Nights In Clovelly

A customerwho stayed at this hotel wrote this review.

Stay Date: 13/11/11

Overall Hotel Rating:

4 out of 5

We decided to stay at the new inn this time. On the plus side we could take our small dog in our room on the downside they did not advise us, despite us calling, that their restaurant would not be open during our stay. The first night we went down to the red lion, the other two nights we stayed at the new inn where they did a reasonable bar meal. I was a bit disappointed as it was a celebration for my husband's birthday and it would have been nice to have been able to have a restaurant meal in the hotel. Overall we had good weather considering it was november and just visited various places, bude being our favourite.

Relaxing Long Weekend In Clovelly

So peaceful, quaint & friendly, we had a lovely time, the weekend went too fast, could have done with a week. The New Inn was clean, well run, and the staff were very friendly, breakfast was spot on, what ever you wanted, we can't fault the hotel at all. Anyone wanting to get away from it all, then Clovelly is it, it is a wonderful place to stay.

Romantic Break in Clovelly

Stay Date: 22/10/07

Overall Hotel Rating:

4 out of 5

The New Inn Hotel was lovely and very individual although the restaurant being closed for refurbishment was not ideal, especially as The Red Lion restaurant was closed for refurbishment at the same time. The village is lovely and SO peaceful, although you have to be fit to climb the hill! Friendly staff in the hotel.Out of season the area of North Devon as a whole does seem very short of pubs and restaurants to get a good evening meal at, and those that do serve food are extremely busy.

Lovely Clovelly!

Overall Hotel Rating:

We arrived late afternoon after a quick jaunt around Barnstaple. Our arrival was through thick misty fog, which settled at the top of the village. Walking down the cobbled street towards the hotel was entertaining - not least because of the dampness settling on the polished stones, but seeing the looks on the faces of the "grokels" leaving!Having settled into our lovely room, we decided to take a jaunt to the Harbour. It was a beautiful afternoon, the misty/fog being stuck at the top of the hill, which left us feeling somewhat honoured, as if Clovelly was being kept clear for us! We decided on a pint or two with the locals in the Red Lion. Thus refreshed we returned to the New Inn hotel for dinner. Dinner was lovely, the restaurant being quite busy! We enjoyed a lovely bottle of Rioja with our supper and then retired to bed. The following morning, having feasted on a huge breakfast, we enjoyed a trip to Bude and then to Hartland. The rock formations at Hartland Quay were amazing. Lunchtime we headed back to Clovelly to undertake the cliff walk. Not a walk for the faint hearted by virtue of the dramatic drops! Not being good with heights I kept away from the edge but did manage to shuffle forward enough to see two seals playing in the beautiful calm water. We made our way to the end of the walk and back, and staggered back into Clovelly for more refreshments at the bar. Local colour was strong and having feasted again in the restaurant, we returned to the bar to be further entertained by villagers and staff alike. All in all we had a fantastic weekend - the perfect weekend getaway! No cars, no mobile phones (no signal!) and just pure peace. I would highly recommend anyone to visit Clovelly out of season.... just don't tell everyone else!
