out of 5Hotel nice atmosphere, cosy particularly the bar area which had a very welcoming log fire. Our room was in the courtyard and whilst spacious needed some updating. Didn't mind the distressed furniture (that added character) but carpet was very dirty and needed replacing and lamp shades broken. Loo seat also loose and radiator in bathroom didn't work. Again needs updating. Staff very pleasant although receptionist was a bit officious on arrival which was slightly off putting. Breakfast was excellent, freshly cooked and served piping hot. Restaurant rutland chinese next door to hotel is highly recommended. Excellent food and really friendly people. Enjoyed rutland water and the small town of oakham. Sight seeing slightly hampered on our visit as heavy snowfall!.

Discovering Rutland with my sons

out of 5Rutland is the smallest county in England but has so much to offer. My wife was away, so I hit The A1 and travelled up to Oakham with my two sons. We stayed at The Whipper Inn. A place simply steeped in history in this quaint market town. The hotel is in a stunning location and enjoys its own car park so coming and going were very easy. We packed the weekend with activities - mostly based at Rutland Water only about 20 minutes from the hotel. My boys enjoyed Windsurfing on Saturday, whilst on Sunday we hired bikes and cycled around this huge body of water. The sun shone throughout. It really was a great weekend. Back at The Whipper Inn we decided a gift was in order for mum. Shopping in this town is excellent. Not the usual big chains. We were sorry to say goodbye to our room and the staff. If every weekend in England was like this we would no go abroad.

Winter Chill Out Break

Overall Hotel Rating:
out of 5The Whipper hotel is centrally based in the county town of Rutland - Oakham. It is right in the market square and has a lovely big fire with comfy settees to have a lovely hot chocolate accompanied by a melt in the mouth shortbread biscuit. Oakham has some interesting shops even if a bit pricey. Stamford is worth visiting - 10 miles away. Again another interesting town with a lovely tea shop or two. Having a down fall of snow made the whole countryside look very picturesque.

out of 5Stayed at the Whipperin Hotel for one night over the May Bank Holiday weekend. The hotel was comfortable, the staff were very friendly and the food in the restaurant was very good. Oakham itself was closed on both the Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday and the wet weather didn't help either. My husband and I weren't particularly bothered by this as we just wanted to chill-out.
