out of 5Blackwell ox inn excellent base for visiting york. Local bus service means you can leave your car in hotel car park (only 7 miles to york through nice countryside.) so no parking fees. The blackwell ox inn has modern recently renovated bedrooms (7) and is clean and well run. The breakfasts are excellent with a good selection, something to suit everyone. I thought the evening menus were a tad expensive and preferred to eat out at other village pubs of which there are many to choose from. I would recommend this lovely counry inn. We had excellent day in york and walked the city walls, went on a boat trip on river ouse and had a shopping trip to the famous shambles area, finished off by lovely tea and cakes at betty's famous tea rooms. Next day it was a visit to stately home castle howard (about 15 miles away) which has the most fabulous grounds and the history of the house is very interesting. Our partners preferred to visit a steam railway and had a brilliant trip. Still loads to see and do so will go back.

out of 5Have been to york before, but always little streets and places of interest that you missed before. Having a drink outside local pubs people watching and taking in your surroundings is a great way of resting tired feet.

out of 5Could not fault the blackwell ox, the room was lovely and the staff friendly and helpful plan to make a return visit one day with more of the family.
