On entering the grounds, driving between the golf greens, I was pleasently suprised to see an old authentic manor building and was greeted by a porter in full livery (including top hat) who carried our bags in without being asked. Upon entering the reception we could see a lovely open log fire which made the whole area warm and inviting. Our room was clean, warm and comfortable and all the indoor facilities were within the building itself, unfortunatelly my wifes hand and arm were in plaster therefore we were unable to use these to their full extent. During our stay, my son, daughter and grandaughter visited us and on retuning from a great day out we all enjoyed an excelent meal in the spitfire lounge bar, which was more relaxed and cheaper.

The staff in all areas of the hotel were really friendly and helpful and it is in a beautiful setting. Our room was ok. Our opinion was that both the room and the bathroom could benefit from updating. But they were clean and comfy. We ate in the hotel restaurant and the meal was lovely and the prices weren't too bad. However, drinks were expensive (£7.50 for a 250ml glass of wine). I was happy with breakfast. There was a good selection of hot and cold food. Unlike other reviews, i didn't have a problem with the temperature of the hot food on the buffet. Overall we had a lovely stay in a nice hotel. However, i feel that the accommodation charges and the prices in the bar are a little high.

Compared to other 4 star hotels aldwalk just creeps in under the wire. Menus for the evening meal were not available even 20 minutes prior to the restaurant opening at 7pm which resulted in visiting the pub in the village (very good) most evenings. Service in the bar was poor - after waiting 20 mins enquired at recption how to obtian a drink prior to evening meal. When selecting cocktails advertised as being available told they did not have the ingredients for making some of them e.g. Mint for mojito! At check-in the young lady on reception was anything but organised - poor listening skills misspelt names numbers when inputting details and asked repeatedly for details to be repeated. A visit to the spa is worthwhile. The one evening meal in the restaurant - the service was good and male only staff efficient / pleasant the same applied to the young lady serving at breakfast. Impression given is that the hotel is being run on a very tight budget.

I would definitely recommend this hotel, it was a fab location/surroundings, fab facilities with pool, sauna and jacquzzi. The staff were lovely and very helpful too. We took our 6 month old baby and they couldn't do enough for us. Couldnt recommend the place highly enough. Will definitely return.
