About The Sleeping Beauty - Ballet
Performed by the Royal Ballet The Sleeping Beauty will show at the Royal Opera House from the 22nd October 2011 to 21st December 2011. A world renowned ballet the Sleeping Beauty is a magical tale that will transport you into another world.
The Sleeping Beauty is one of Tchaikovsky’s most popular ballets, and his been performed by dancers across the globe. First performed in 1890 the ballet is based on the original fairytale ‘La Belle au bois dormant’ by Charles Perrault.
When the King and Queen forget to invite the wicked fairy Carabosse to Princess Aurora’s christening, she places a curse that on her 16th birthday the princess will prick her finger and die. The Fairy Lilac quickly acts and changes it so the princess will merely fall asleep for a hundred years, only to be awoken by true loves kiss. With the famed Princess Aurora, the good Lilac fairy and wicked Carabosse and Prince Florimund, the Sleeping Beauty is a great ballet for all ages.
The Royal Ballet’s staging is the distinctive production by Ninette de Valois, first revived for a production at the Royal Opera House in 2006.
