About The Railway Children
Following the success of its 2010 run at the old Eurostar platform York Theatre Royal’s production of The Railway Children won the Best Entertainment Award at the 2011 Olivier Awards. Now The Railway Children London is set to return to Waterloo station in June 2011.
Adapted from E Nesbit’s hugely popular book The Railway Children London tells the story of three children as their family is turned upside down when their father disappears and they have to move from an affluent town house in London to rural Yorkshire.
Bobby, Peter and Phyllis, move with their mother when their father is falsely imprisoned for selling secrets to the Russians. Finding solace in the steam trains on the nearby railway line the children soon befriend Station Master Perks and an Old Gentleman who throughout the play helps to prove their father’s innocence. Originally published in 1906 The Railway Children is a heart warming story of love and family ties.
The Railway Children moved to London after two summer runs at the National Railway Museum in York. Directed by Damian Cruden The Railway Children London features the old Gentleman's saloon carriage from the original 1970 film and a period steam train from the National Railway Museum. A 1,000 seat venue has been built around the railway tracks and audiences are seated either side.
From 3rd December Mark Benton will play Station Master Perks

"This show was outstanding. The stage and set are quite unique, we paid for good seats - middle section near front of platform 2 , but i would think all seats would give a good view. The cast..."
