Short Break in Oxford

Considering this was a 4 star hotel it was appalling, there was no standard of service at all. The pool was out of order but no information was available, the room was not ready on arrival at 4.00pm. The room was noisy so we had to request being moved to another room, the breakfast was cold and dried out and I do not think that you should be expected to carry hot cups of self service coffee and tea through a squashed restaurant with children everywhere, a real health and safety issue. The staff were not friendly and did not offer any information at any time.

Short Break in Oxford

Had a lovely time in oxford, it's lively but relaxed, excellent restaurants, lot's of old style pubs, serving real ales, very nice market, good centre for shopping, lot's of university shops, plenty of buildings to photograph and museums ad botanical gardens to visit, boats to hire on the river but you need to have some form of identity with you as well as paying a deposit, spent a day looking round blenheim palace and woodstock, just had a very enjoyable time. The barcelo hotel is very modern and our first impression was a bit disappointing as it seemed to be too far out of town, but once we found where the bus stopped across the road from the hotel and how frequent they ran it was ok, and on a nice day it was a pleasant walk and this is how we found the north parade, a very pleasant find. The hotel rooms were very clean and modern with every thing you would need but probably had a bit too much furniture in them which didn't leave much space to walk round. The breakfast in the hotel was a bit disappointing on the first day, as the hot breakfast choice was barely warm and the beans were tasteless, tea and coffee also only luke warm, there were problems with the toasters, and shortage of variety of breads as stated on the menu, we stuck to the continental breakfast after that which was ok but not always a good selection. We didn't try the restaurant at night in case it was of the same quality as the breakfast. The leisure facilities were very good and the staff at reception were very helpful, it seemed a hotel more for busness meetings but overall we enjoyed our stay there.
