out of 5We travelled by shuttle to Calais and then drove to Ostend. We stayed at the Hotel Ostend, very close to the front, very helpful and pleasant staff, very comfortable room and good spread for breakfast. The only down point was that the bar was a smoking area and the atmosphere soon became unpleasant, we asked the staff if we could take our drinks to reception - no problem. We visited the Christmas markets in Ostend and Bruges but primarily enjoyed walking by the sea and generally relaxing.

out of 5Ostend is a great place with something for everyone. I have stayed in Brugge before and think it is better to stay in Ostend and visit Brugge on the train for the day. Brugge is lovely, but I feel you can easily see all there is in one day. It is only 15 mins on the train.Ostend is a fish lovers paradise. You have all the seafood stalls along the quayside. Loads of fish restaurants. There is the beach, the quay, the tram that goes along the coast and shops, bars etc. Being by the sea you also get a lovely sea breeze (which could be cold out of season!). Everything is close at hand and you don't have to walk far for anything. Will definitely be going back!
