out of 5Myself and my sister (both mid 20's) decided on Newcastle for a short break. The Cairn Hotel was clean, spacious and in a lovely area of West Jesmond. It is very easy to get into the centre of town. I would recommend the metro just a short walk away rather than a taxi as i felt these were slightly over priced. We were definitley over priced on at least one occasion. From the hotel turn right and walk along til the cash Lloyds (i think) bank and cash machines are on your right, on the corner. Turn right again and look for the old fashioned black direction signs that will point you to the metro station.This was undoubtedly the easiest way to travel around the city.The rest of the hotels and bars in West Jesmond get very busy at the weekend. We were told that they are twice as busy at the weekend as this is most folkes pay day. Everyone was very friendly. You should visit The Gate, which is right in the centre. This is full of pubs and some clubs as well as a casino.The only issue we had was the smoke detector in the room is highly sensitive. Even though we had the window open wide it still picked up the steam from us drying and then strightening our hair and set the alarm off on a few occasions. One of the guys from reception came up to ask what we were doing and toopen the window more even though it was open full. Be careful! We got into trouble for that! Other tha that the Cairn Hotel was a perfect base for a long weekend away. 8/10 for the hotel and 9/10 for the overall trip.

out of 5Business trip to Cairn Hotel, Osbourne Rd, Newcastle.Double payment for room occured awaiting refund from Hotel.The room and facilities were substandard but the staff and breakfast compensated . i will not revisit. British hotels must improve their standards to continental levels at reasonable cost.
