Short Break In Amsterdam

Overall Hotel Rating:
out of 5The hotel was well placed near Lledsplein with plenty of cafes and bars. Trams were readily available. We purchased the iamsterdam card which gave free admission to many museums / attractions; free tram transport and a free canal cruise. It was good value for 3 days and we visited many more places than we anticipated. The ferry service across the river ij (by central station) is free. There were some lovely views up the river at sunset. The small house museums were very interesting.

Overall Hotel Rating:
out of 5We stayed at the King Hotel for 2 nights in April. We found the hotel, plain but clean and very welcoming, with very comfy beds, we were upgraded free to a room overlooking the canal. The hotel was very central, about a 10 minute walk to Anne Franks House, 15 mins walk to the Van Gogh Museum and 2 minutes from the tram stop which we used a lot, there was a quiet road in front of the hotel which carried very little traffic, so therefore the hotel was not noisy, especially at night. The hotel has very steep stairs, but does have a lift, although it's very small and may not be suitable for a wheelchair. The hotel provides breakfast in the morning, which was continental and adequate. We visited Anne Franks house which was very interesting and had no queue, unsuitable for disabled though as it has VERY steep stairs and no lift. The same can be said for the Little Church in the Attic (Red light district), very interesting, but extremely steep stairs and no lift. Van Gogh Museum is also well worth a visit and although has lots of stairs, it also has a lift which would be suitable for disabled. We ate mostly in the Red Light District (not for the obvious attractions, I might add) but as there are many more quirky restaurants, that were very good value. We walked everywhere, as the hotel was central, but usually came back by tram from the further places, we found the trams ran regularly and frequently and were cheap, you can buy tickets on board or in shops.

out of 5A small but clean and tidy hotel, very close to the centre of Amsterdam. Everything within walking distance. Visited a number of museums, boat trips on the canals and generally just relaxed - sitting outside bar/cafes watching the world go by and walking around, alongside the canals. Trams are very easy to use, very quick and run at about 3 minute intervals. So many restaurants and so little time!
