out of 5I have travelled a lot and stayed in many hotels world-wide. I rank this one in my top ten. The staff were courteous and friendly, going beyond what was expected in being helpful. The hotel itself is nothing special to look at from the outside but inside is nicely decorated and homely (unusually so for a chain hotel). It is about 15 minutes walk from the walled city centre. We used the very nice, clean swimming pool. There is also a nice gymnasium which we did not use. The bedroom was clean, pleasant and spacious. The hotel restaurant offered a good choice of interesting dinners: all those we had were of excellent quality. I would give this a strong recommendation on value for money. On payment of the bill I was given a discount voucher for a future visit, which we intend to use as there is much more to do and see in York and the surrounding area.

out of 5Hotel of character (former rectory) within walking distance of city centre, clean and comfortable, free parking. The mount accessible from holgate road is a quirky little pub serving large meals at very modest prices - their meal deals are excellent value. We were in york to visit the archives at york university - very helpful staff.

out of 5We spent a lot of time just walking around the city sights like the Shambles and York Minster. The choice of resturants and coffee shop did us proud.

out of 5York is a wonderful place to visit. Too many places to fit into this space. We were only there for three days, need more time. The shambles, museums, castle, ghost walks, and also the surrounding countryside. Great time to be had, and hope to go back very soon. Our hotel was very welcoming, and the fact it had a pool was a bonus.
