out of 5This was a last minute getaway during half-term. It was a weekend of contrasts - the excitement and education of the Magna Science Activity Centre housed in a disused steel works, the bright lights of shopping at Meadowhall, the glorious scenery of the Peak District and the most amusing tour of a cave you could imaging thanks to a truely entertaining yet knowledgable guide at the Blue John Caven. And real Bakewell pudding on the way home.The Magna Centre is worth a visit especially if you have kids between about 6 and 12 as we have. It has a wide range of interactive exhibits covering earth, air, fire and water. It also has a large outdoor adventure play area for when they've had enough thinking.The trip out to the Blue John Cavern was spectactular with the industrial city soon far behind you. And even if you think a cave is just a cave our tour was more of a caberet thanks to the quick dry wit of the guide.

out of 5visited Gullivers Kingdom at Matlock with our 2 children age 5 & 3. Attraction ideally suited to our age range. Made even better by the excellent waether, would not like to do on a bad day. Spent time in the leisure pool at the hotel. Great pool ideal to get some swimming practice in for my daughter. After a well cooked breakfast (staff happy to attend to requests) spent day at Meadow Hall shopping centre. A really enjoyable weakend.
