Disappointing Birmingham Hotel

out of 5We paid quite a lot for this hotel stay and were very disappointed to say the least that when we arrived, we were given a room which had refurbishment work going on just up the corridor. This meant that we had to walk the whole length of a floor and then up some stairs and half way back along a floor to get to our room. Not what you want after a tiring car journey and seemingly needless as there seemed to be plenty of free rooms. We were also worried that there was a lot of noisy building work outside our window. However, we were pleased when the work stopped at 9pm so that we could get a good nights sleep. Or so we thought. The work resumed at 10pm and by midnight we were still awake, so complained at reception. They gave us a new room but said that the day staff should have known not to put people in those rooms, as the work had been going on for several nights! not very good service. Otherwise, once we had a quiet room, we were happier (despite an uncomfortable mattress) and the breakfast was fortunately above average. It was a good location for central birmingham shops and sights.

Editor’s comments: We do request that all the hotels we work with inform us of any changes/refurbishment programmes they may be undertaking. Unfortunately on this occasion we were not made aware of this.

out of 5Hotel was straight across the road from the bull ring shopping centre and next door to the station. Breakfast was served to us and was a bit slow as hotel really busy but worth the wait. Room was lovely-traditional but really cosy, roomy and warm. Very clean, fresh water, plenty of towels, tea and coffee facilities, tv, iron and ironing board. We have stayed in jury's broad street and novotel before which were both very good but preferred this hotel. On the day of the clothes show at nec which was a sunday there was no train running before 10am but we were able to grab a taxi, several of which sit right outside the hotel. We were at the nec in 25 minutes. We got a taxi to the canal for £5 and ate at tin tin which was lovely but could have done with putting some heating on! We also went to the slug and lettuce a few doors down for cocktails. We walked across to reflex, an 80's disco which is on broad street near jury's. We were on the dance floor for four hours solid -the music was amazing if you like 80's! brilliant weekend. Can't wait to go back next year.
