Edinburgh Tattoo Weekend
A customerfrom Derbyshirewho stayed at this hotel wrote this review.
Stay Date: 15/08/08
Overall Hotel Rating:
out of 5The whole weekend was excellent. Travel from the hotel into Edinburgh was easy with a freqent bus service along Corstorphine Road past the Holiday Inn. A slight concern was returning on Saturday evening after the Tattoo at after Midnight but there was an excellent service of Night buses from Princes Street. The tickets for the attractions and the tour buses were very useful.
Holiday Inn Edinburgh for The Fringe Festival

Overall Hotel Rating:
out of 5The Edinburgh Festival must be totally intimidating for first time attendees. The streets of the city are awash with actors thrusting leaflets at you, pleading for you to attend their show and with hundreds of performances a day to choose from where do you start?2007 was my fifteenth year on the trot so I have a rough idea about these matters. My survival tip is to find a good hotel with easy access to the city and that serves a great breakfast then take a rucksack to carry your Fringe Guide and clothes for all seasons. Thus I checked into The Holiday Inn Edinburgh. It's not glamorous but the staff are friendly, the rooms are comfortable and the buffet breakfast is simply superb - complete with haggis! There is also a car park and a bus that runs from the door straight into the city centre. What more could a festival-goer desire?I won't tell you about the shows as they won't stick around but I have to mention three special atmospheres. The Pleasance Courtyard is the place to be. A massive open air bar with shows starting in various venues every fifteen minutes. Next is the bar at The Assembly Rooms. This is a late night haunt for me. You meet performers and other audience members all keen to share their experiences. Then for the real late owls there is Fingers Bar on Frederick Street. It lacks the class of the world's great piano bars but if you want to be packed in with a sea of humanity, singing along at the top of your voice make a bee line for the place. A top spot after midnight!I am already planning my trip for 2008 and The Holiday Inn Edinburgh will once again be my jumping-off spot.
