visited madrid for 3 days - a girls weekend away and what a great time we had - would certainly recommend it.The hotel overall was lovely very friendly staff and the rooms were spotless - great location in city centre.Recommend the madrid vision open top bus hop on hop off - its a great way to see the sights. The plaza mayor is worth a visit relax with a coffee or a drink in one of the many open air restaurants and watch the entertainers.Lots of lovely shops in the city too open till late evening. Tapas bars are a must - thats where you gat to meet the locals.

Excellent central hotel 2 minutes from the Puerto del SOL. We eplored the city on foot having visited before. The city was buzzing with a great atmosphere . However the queues for museums especially the Prado were very long ! . New years eve was a brilliant atmosphere especially on Puerto del Sol . However if you want to continue drinking after seeing the new year in be prepared to pay top prices ( but not uexpected in a capital city)

A Great Short Break in Madrid

A customerwho stayed at this hotel wrote this review.

Stay Date: 01/07/07

Overall Hotel Rating:

5 out of 5

My wife and I spent a great 4 days in Madrid in early July 2007. Our major activities were visiting the "top 3" art galleries as well as general sightseeing. We were particularly impressed by the Thyssen Art Gallery which had excellent special exhibitions (van Gogh and Richard Estes). As well as being an excellent mid-range hotel the Gran Carlos is well positioned for visiting the main sites -we did all of these comfortably on foot without needing public transport or taxis.Madrid is obviously very hot at this time of year although shady areas have been deliberately created in many of the main thoroughfares. The art galleries are kept cool and offer a good way of avoiding the mid-day temperatures. Also the Retiro Park and Botanical Gardens are great for chilling out (or for a quiet snooze!) after sightseeing. We would recommend eating out in one of the restaurants in Plaza Mayor - not the cheapest location but well worth it for the experience.
