out of 5Edinburgh on a sunny September day was very busy but as beautiful as always. The hotel accommodated us well before check-in time which was really helpful and the staff were very polite. At night the area became rather noisy with lots of passing groups of revellers. As we were on the second floor unfortunately we could not see the view of the castle enjoyed on a previous visit. There was a fire alarm in the morning and my daughter was forced to stand in the street in pyjamas with wet hair but this could not be helped. My only concern was that the hotel did not attempt at any point to do a roll call or check everyone was out of the rooms. Had it been a serious fire this could have been a cause for concern. Neither did they attempt to muster visitors to any particular point and many were left hanging around in the doorway. Other than that a lovely weekend.

out of 5The flexible train ticket gave us a stress free journey to Edinburgh. Our short stay was enhanced by a day coach tour in a timberbush coach. The staff at the hotel were friendly and genuinely helpful. We just felt that breakfast time did not run smoothly. The eggs were cooked to order but they did not come at the right time.

out of 5There's so much to do in Edinburgh you can't get bored, and it's so beautiful. We walked around and took in the sights, visited the Royal Mile and the castle, went to Mary Kings close, went on a ghost walk, went shopping, visited some restaurants and had a few drinks in a variety of historical and haunted pubs. The Mercure Point hotel is in a fantastic location with an amazing view of the castle. It's a 5 minute walk to Grassmarket and a 10 minute walk to the Royal Mile and Edinburgh castle. The room was lovely and clea and the service was very good.
