Unfortunately, the hotel had not received a confirmation of our booking so no room had been booked for us. They found us a room, an executive style (not standard) in the older part of the hotel. The only thing i think could make it executive was the size of the bathroom. It was a double room rather than a twin as requested but they never got the request and i was just thankful to get a room. The decor is traditional (old fashioned) and no double glazing. On the saturday night there was a wedding reception and the music was loud and clear in our room. I phoned reception at about 12.45 am to find out when it would end and the night porter thought about 1am. At 1.30 i phoned again and he assumed it had stopped, if it had, why would i be phoning? i went down to reception and spoke to the night porter and noticed the night manager (so i was told) heading off with some dry cleaning to deliver. Shame about me waiting to speak to someone in authority! the reception eventually finished about 2am. I want people to enjoy their wedding receptions but it was not fair to put us in a room nearby without warning us of possible noise. The wedding reception was in a separate building but the music could still be heard. The morning reception staff were very helpful. They put us in a room on the opposite side of the hotel for the following night, however, this time we could hear the traffic from the road running adjacent to the hotel. It was coming in loud and clear through the air vent in the bathroom! we did get a twin room this time with a small bathroom. The other worry was the receptionist on the night of arrival wanted us to pay for the weekend break when i knew we had already paid Superbreak. Luckily, the receptionist on our departure knew that superbreak take the payment in advance. On the positive side, the breakfasts were good and the lady on duty in the bar on the sunday night was extremely helpful with ordering some food for us even though it was not on the bar menu. The leek and potato soup was very tasty and the crumble was delicious.
