I stayed at the Crowne Plaza whilst working at nearby Stockley Park, and whilst the hotel is comfortable, there is certainly room for improvement! On check-in … Read More after a long car journey, I found my room had not been cleaned since the previous guest had vacated the room! The sheets were dirty, towels filthy, and I won't evenmention how dirty the toilet was! After contacting housekeeping, a cleaner was sent with fresh towels - completely missing the point! Reception finally moved me toanother room - granting me an upgrade in the process. My next room was very clean and comfortable, but the noise from the ventilation in the bathroom made it very noisywithout shutting the bathroom door. The hotel provides free wifi, but the speed is so low, it is virtually unusable. Needing to work, and communicate with theoutside world, I opted to pay for the "high speed" internet - at £30 for three days. At 4Mbs, I don't class this as high speed. The service cut out frequently, Skype andFaceTime were impossible, as was accessing BBC iPlayer. A hotel designed for business travellers should offer usable internet access free of charge (let alonecharging for it), and if a charge is levied, this should be providing the service paid for. Orwell's Grill. Oh dear. I chose a medium cooked rib eye steak, chips, onionrings and a (small) glass of wine. The steak was rare, and was the most watery and tasteless steak I have every eaten. When a waiter eventually rushed passed measking how my food was, I told him, and was simply offered an extra side order. The duty manager then called to see me and then again offered me additional sides or anew steak. By this time I was tired, and opted not to take him up on the offer. He did deduct £25 off the bill, but when paying £25 (for the steak alone - plus sides)this should be much, much better. One final point. There is no choice but to park at the hotel in their huge car park - but this too is charged as if it's anoptional extra at £12/day. So, a mixed bag. Perhaps the best hotel in the vicinity for business travellers, but could be SO much better! Collapse
