The Capital offers both elegance and warmth--keeping it real in London
Stay Date: August 2015 , CharlotteAdamis , Kingston, New York
My mother and I recently spend seven nights at The Capital. It was a true home away from home--albeit, one with all the amenities. First of all, we were greeted … Read More upon a late night arrival with tremendous graciousness--the kitchen was officially closed, but the bartender made us perfect tea sandwiches. All of the hotel staff, from the doormen to the concierge, the wait staff at breakfast (fabulous English breakfasts...), to the housekeepers --they went out of their way to make us feelwelcome and to offer directions, information, services--whatever was needed. We loved our elegant room, overlooking Basil Street. Though not large, there was a place foreverything--and, most importantly, the beds and linens were of top quality and afforded a good night's sleep (plus blinds and window treatments that kept out thelight). Location in Knightsbridge was beyond perfect! We walked out onto Basil Street and were at the tube stop in three minutes--Picadilly Line. We were also a blockfrom Harrod's (a fast-paced scene), yet two blocks from quiet Hyde Park. We loved being able to come downstairs and order our breakfast each morning in the quietdining room before starting out on a busy day of touring. Eggs, back bacon, smoked salmon--we had it all, plus some mornings I had the porridge with clotted cream andbrown sugar. I do not regret the three pounds I took back with me to the states... Bravo to all the staff and the owners for providing such a warm and caring andluxurious stay--I look forward to returning. Collapse
