My friend, a wheelchair user, had looked at this hotel for a trip into London, and rang Central Reservations to enquire about accessibility. She was told that a … Read More ground floor room would be accessible, although the bathroom would not. As my friend can't walk very far, she accepted this. There were no twin-bedded rooms available, but there was a sofa bed, so she booked and paid for the room (£90). And we looked forward to the trip, despite the mixed reviews on here. Our visit didn't startoff very well as I had to move 2 steep, narrow ramps into place so that I could get the wheelchair into reception. Despite having already paid £90 for the room, myfriend had to hand over her card for pre-authorisation when we checked in. the wheelchair couldn't fit through the door, but luckily it is foldable, so we managed. Ifit had been a solid wheelchair or someone who couldn't have walked at all, we'd have been left with nowhere to stay! I went back to Reception to point that out atReception and to tell them that the sofa bed hadn't been made up. When we came back from our night out, I asked at Reception if the sofa bed had been made up and wastold that Housekeeping had left for the day, so the bedding had been left for me to make up. They'd had hours to sort it out, but didn't bother. My friend was upsetto find out that night that the pre-authorisation had taken £90 out of her account! When we checked out the staff, and then management said she couldn't have pre-paidfor her room as that isn't how they do things. She had to show them the receipt and statement before they rang Reservations to check. They then changed their storyto say that £90 does have to be pre-authorised in case of extra spending, and at the weekends it can be £150! So you need to make sure you have enough money in youraccount to cover double the amount of your stay without them warning you in advance. the website says they will pre-authorise you $1!!! Not your room price again. Wewere then told that she'd have to wait 2 days before the money would be back in her account! but if she'd bought a drink at the bar and charged it to the room, she'd have had her money back quicker. The manager (we presume) was extremely rude and I hope he feels proud that he was having a go at a woman in a wheelchair. We oftenstay in hotels and have never been treated like this. In fact, practically all of my reviews on Trip Advisor rate a 4 or 5. Collapse
