We arrived in a rain shower and had a problem finding access to the entrance because of road works. No prior warning from the hotel when we booked. Had to ask a logal postman. Reception was good and staff very helpful.Room was much smaller than we expected and we had no wardrobes or ghest of drawers. One rail in a small recess and living out of our suitcase. I specifically asked (in advance) for a quiet room and the only window opened onto the busy main road. Steps to the 3rd floor very steep and I am disabled. Staff were a great help all round though.

This hotel is in a lovely setting and just falls short of being an excellent establishment. The initial welcome we received was below standard and we immediately asked to swap rooms as the bed was obviously old and very soft. Although we were given a slightly better room, the bed in the next one was exactly the same, meaning our sleep was disturbed. Generally most other staff couldn't do enough for you and we found the breakfast very good value for money. The meal on the 1st night was included in our deal and although the food was cooked we had to send out food back twice for being cold. Despite these issues we enjoyed our weekend and took advantage of the spa facilities. A few small changes to the beds, smartening up some tired areas and ensuring the food coming out from the kitchen is warm, would make this a 4* hotel in our opinion rather than a 3*.

In spite of poor weather, we had a great and relaxing time at the hotel. We visited stratford's butterfly farm which was excellent. The hotel's swimming pool/sauna/steam room were great. The gym looked good, but we didn't feel too energetic, wanting a totally relaxing time. We felt the food at the hotel was particularly expensive, but very nice. The grounds where the hotel is is lovely, if it was dry, we would have had a walk there. This we would do if we ever visited the hotel again.
