out of 5We decided to go the extra mile and booked 1st class on the train. Worth every penny. East coast trains go to so much trouble to make the journey comfortable, with a constant supply of tea, coffee and biscuits. We stayed at the premier inn, haymarket. The staff greeted us with a smile and were so helpful the whole time we were there. The hotel was spotlessly clean and the beds lovely and comfortable. There were ample towels in the bathroom and the water was always lovely and hot. We decided to eat in the restaurant on the first night, and I have to say the food was really really good. A two course dinner and a wonderful breakfast was only £22 pp. The following day we took one of the open top buses and got off at the castle. Really interesting, and stopped to see the cannon being fired at 12 mid day. There was a whiskey tasting going on in the shop, and we really made the most of it on such a cold day. There is also a woollen mill there with all the national costumes on dispay. The cashmere sweaters and scarf prices were so reasonable (compared to London) that we treated ourselves to a little piece of Scotland. When we had finished in the castle and mill, we had a lovley lunch in the old square, and hopped back on the tour bus (every 15 minutes). All in all we throughly enjoyed our stay and I have to say that thanks to Superbreak the whole thing was arraqnged without any stress to us, and it all went so smoothly. Can't wait to book our next break!.
