out of 5We used the Houston Hotel in livingstone. This hotel is superb. The bedrooms are large and bright and very comfortable. We booked a weekend package which included dinner on the first night. The meal was nicely cooked but very bland whereas the breakfast each morning was excellent. The staff are extremely friendly. The meals however are very expensive. The train station is only a 3 minute drive from the hotel where there is free parking. The trains goes into central edinburgh and run until 23.00 hours. For a beautiful lunch go to St Giles Cathedral cafe in the crypt, small, friendly and perfect food. We travelled from the north of England and called at Holy Island on the way to Edinburgh and returned via the coastal route. A fantastic weekend. A hotel to be recommneded certainly but beware of the highly priced food and especially the cost of the wine, some of which worked out at £50 for a bottle which costs us £5 in tesco! also, we were asked if we wanted water at the table and we expected a jug, only to be served with chilled water and charged £4! The only thought I would give to this hotel is that no one drinks the wine with their evening meals at such high prices, it would be much better to serve it at sensible prices which would encourage more people to enjoy the meals. However, we will certainly return.
