About this hotel
In the historic south-west corner of the Cotswolds, high above Stroud on the wilds of Rodborough Common, stands the handsome Bear of Rodborough Hotel. Originally built in the 17th century, this former coaching inn provided a much appreciated resting-place on the main coaching route from Gloucester to London. To this day it offers a warm welcome to all.
Built over 300 years ago, this coaching inn has been beautifully restored to embrace and exhibit its heritage and period features. The distinctive image of the reception area is reinforced by the presence of the old stone archway under which the horses once galloped into the courtyard and by the large bell formerly used to summon the inn-keeper.
Strongly influenced by William Morris and the Arts and Crafts movement, the interior of the Bear of Rodborough Hotel makes lavish use of rich fabrics and antique furniture. The imposing oak staircase, with its unusual bell pull chandelier, leads to the bedrooms, each distinctively and comfortably furnished.
Set in 300 acres of National Trust land, the Bear of Rodborough Hotel, newly refurbished in 2011, provides a luxurious retreat where you can enjoy fine food and drink while relaxing in a homely and friendly atmosphere.
The 46 bedrooms in the Bear of Rodborough Hotel add a touch of elegance and individuality to your stay. They are uniquely styled in warm inviting colours, with attention to detail in every bedroom. There are panoramic views over Rodborough Common and the beautiful Woodchester Valley. Bedrooms are located in the Main House and adjoining Woodchester House.
An inspired location for country breaks at any time of the year, the Bear of Rodborough Hotel is ideal as a centre for country walks, visits to historic sites, a trip to the races or as a business venue. The nearby towns (Bath, Cirencester & Tetbury) and villages are famous for their wealth and variety of antique shops - all in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
