out of 5Easingwold is an ideal centre for visiting York, and the moors,or the seaside. The George hotel was ok for a short break, but one of our rooms was very cold, however the staff provided extra heaters. Maels were of a good standard, and restaraunt staff very friendly.

Short Break In York
A customerfrom UKwho stayed at this hotel wrote this review.
Stay Date: 28/10/10
Overall Hotel Rating:
out of 5We stayed in a small village about 10 miles north of York called Easingwold. It was very picturesque and welcoming. The hotel staff were very friendly, polite and helpful especially with directions to places to visit. There was aslo an information centre in the village which helped with steam train times and bus times. We rode the steam train to Whitby, took about 2 hours but found it quit expensive (£21 each) we also visited York Minster which was lovely and we got in half price as we were English Heritage members. The boat ride down the River Ouse was well worth it and the captain was very informative. The George Hotel was quaint and food was excellent quality and value for money. We will be revisiting them again next year as there is so much more to see.

out of 5I found the rooms at the George Hotel to be basic (in need of refurbishment). However it was clean, the staff were very friendly and the food was very good. I would highly recommend this hotel.

out of 5The George in Easingwold is an ideal place to stay to visit York and surrounding countryside. Use the local buses or drive to use the park and ride for York. We went to Thirsk one evening to the small community cinema, it was great! There is so much to see and do in York, concentrate on one or two areas rather than try to cram everything in.

out of 5The Historic Quay was very interesting, well laid out and with two nice cafe's. The highlight was seeing round the Trincomaleethe children( ages 10 and 8) thought some of the detail in the tours/films on site were rather cruel and bloodthirsty, but accepted that this reflected the age.

out of 5We went to Beningborough Hall and Gardens on our way to The George at Easingwold. We were celebrating our 41st wedding anniversary, and our nephew and his wife came down from Thirsk to have a very enjoyable evening meal with us. On Tuesday morning after looking round Easingwold we went to Bridlington for the day before our journey back home to West Yorkshire.

out of 5My daughter, who was visiting me from New Zealand, travelled from the North of England to Easingwold visiting Ripon en route, stopped for coffee near the Cathedral. Ripon Cathedral is beautifulwith many interesting exhibits. We made our way to Easingwold via Thirsk and found our The George Hotel with no problems. The staff were very welcoming and we found our room very comfortable. After exploring Easingwold, a very pretty and interesting market town, we spent the rest of our stay in York and Knaresborough. Our advice to anyone visiting York do not take the bus, it cost us ?8.00 to park for 4 hours on Thursday evening when we met a relative for a meal.

out of 5We really enjoyed our weekend break. The George Hotel was fabulous considering it was only 2*. It had a great restaurant. The day trip to York was fine but rather overcrowded as it coincided with the St Nicholas Fair.

out of 5Our trip was to visit family in the area, but we always enjoy visiting York - anywhere there is always great.Easingwold is a wonderful market town with great pubs and places to eat and some interesting small shops. Would recommend a stop at Clark's Tea Shop, food at Angel and George Hotels and for a quick snack or for anyone with a sweet tooth - try Thomas's bakery. Easingwold is a good stopping off place for North Yorkshire - close to all sights and York, Thirsk, Ripon etc.

A Good Impression

out of 5We spent a couple of days at Easingwold with German friends, who were touring the UK.They found the old North Riding an especially beautiful area which, given that they are from the Rhineland, is great praise. They had been looking forward to seeing York Minster, and in their own words their "anticipation was fulfilled." They were glad, also, to be shown Whitby, which the knew as the site of the Synod, the birthplace of Capt. Cook and the landing-place of Dracula. This is, evidently, a part of England hardly known to German visitors. Our friends departed with a regret that they had not had sufficient time there.
