Gibraltar Holiday Reviews

Gibraltar

Gibraltar is situated at the southernmost tip of the Iberian peninsula where Europe meets Africa. There are magnificent panoramic views from the summit of the Rock of Gibraltar which dominates the territory as well as being home to the famous apes. Visitors are assured of breathtaking scenery, wildlife and architecture.

With flights departing from several UK airports and short journey times, Gibraltar is very simple to get to. The airport is located right next to the town so shuttle transfers take only a few minutes from airport to hotel.

  • The Rock of Gibraltar is the territory's most famous landmark and tourist attraction. With spectacular views across the Mediterranean (you can even see Africa on a clear day) and into Spain, a visit to the Rock is an absolute must. The Rock?s nature reserve houses over 300 Barbary macaques as well as an impressive array of flowers and plants. The tunnels beneath the Rock are also well worth a visit, some date back to the 18th century and were expanded during the Second World War to form a total length of over 300 metres.
  • Day Trips to Spain and Morocco are popular with visitors to Gibraltar. Take a ferry across the Strait of Gibraltar to Tangier. Take in the sights on a panoramic walking tour of the city. You will visit the Medina, a picturesque Souk and the Bazaars and Markets. For the adventurer in you why not choose the optional camel ride too? Popular trips into Spain include a Jerez Excursion, Estepona and Casares and even a coach trip to Marbella.
  • Grand Casemates Square is the largest town square and the historic centre of Gibraltar. Dating back to the 12th century, the square has been continuously expanded in various distinct styles and now houses many bars, pubs and restaurants.
Check out our Gibraltar travel guide for some tips on how to make the most of your break in Gibraltar.

Gibralter Break

Stay Date: 30/03/09, a customer from Manchester who stayed at 4* The Rock Hotel in Gibraltar wrote this review.

6 Days In Gibraltar

Stay Date: 31/01/10, a customer from Sittingbourne who stayed at 4* The Rock Hotel in Gibraltar wrote this review.

We went to Gibraltar on the basis that it was as far south in europe as you can go and we needed a winter break. It is a very cosmopolitan place and make sure you enjoy as many of the different See More  Read more information cultures as you can. The small jewish cafe where we had a light lunch was very friendly with good food and family ambience. Many of the aloes were in flower with nectar feeding birds in evidence. The local buses are frequent and canget you to most parts of Gibraltar very cheaply (and you meet the local people who are charming and helpful). It's worth staying in the Rock Hotel for its edwardian feel and its "poirot-esque" looks -even the sign "The Rock Hotel" reminds you of the title sequences of the David Suchet tv series! All in all a good experience and well worth repeating in March/April when the major bird migrationsare visible across the straits of Gibraltar.   Collapse  Hide

Four nights in the Caleta hotel

Stay Date: 26/02/17, a customer aged 45-64 from Cranleigh who stayed at 4* Caleta Hotel in Gibraltar wrote this review.

The hotel was nice even though the builders were there. The decoration in the room, needed refreshing and furniture updating, bed a little too firm. Some staff very helpful, others not so much. The See More  Read more information transfer cost of £32 for a ten minute drive from the airport was a bit overpriced and the bus used was very tatty even the springs had gone in some of the seats. Great few days in Gib

Stay Date: 10/08/17, a customer aged 25-44 from Mountain Ash who stayed at 4* Caleta Hotel in Gibraltar wrote this review.

Hotel Caleta was great - public areas were spot on but we felt the rooms could have been a bit cleaner e.g. the glass & the balcony floor. First trip to Gibraltar

Stay Date: 15/09/16, a customer aged 45-64 who stayed at 4* The Rock Hotel in Gibraltar wrote this review.

Our trip started with a flight from Bristol to Gibraltar. Flight on time, airport good no problems with the selected pick up and drop car parking services. All very easy, making the trip to See More  Read more information Gibraltar stress free. The Rock Hotel is set on the rock which means a walk to the main street. For us fine. For people with physical difficulties this would be difficult and it would possibly mean a taxi orbus ride. Both easy to access. The hotel prior to my visit I had thought was 5 * not sure why or how I had made this assumption or whether I was mislead by advertising. The Rock Hotel in my opinionwould not be 5*. The staff were polite, cheerful and helpful. The room was comfortable and appeared to be clean. We were supplied with clean bedding and towels everyday. The small balcony we had wasbasic. The coffee and tea making facilities were basic. The room had very tiny almost invisible insects that found their way into the small kettle each morning and this was most undesirable. The smallfridge was not stocked daily with fresh small bottles of drinking water. Two bottles were in fridge on arrival but not restocked daily. Our room was offered as a smoking room. There was no evidence thatthis was acceptable as a smoke alarm was fitted and no ashtrays were provided on the outside small space. The outside eating area was reserved for the restaurant clients. The bar snacking / drinkingclients were not encouraged to use the patio / smoking area. The pool area and snack bar were very good only issue being you do have to walk down a steep incline and cross a main and busy road. Ifyour eye sight is near perfect you can at times see the monkeys on the top of the rock moving around. The Rock provided us (two reasonably fit adults in there 50's) with a comfortable base and facilitieswhich in my opinion would be closer to the 3 - 4 * rating.   Collapse  Hide

Bristol Hotel- Gibraltar

Stay Date: 01/01/90, a customer who stayed at 3* Bristol Hotel in Gibraltar wrote this review.

I was in Gibraltar for a school reunion having lived there in the mid 80’s. We chose the Bristol Hotel for its excellent price and location. Only 5 minutes and £5 from the airport by See More  Read more information taxi. The breakfast is basic continental and any coeliacs are best off on a room only deal! They could do with adding some fruit to the breakfast bar. The whole hotel is very dated but we just joked wehad stepped back in time to when we lived in Gib. Its almost quirky and charming in its shabbyness but it is also superbly clean and very welcoming. There was a fridge in our room which wasuseful but no tea/coffee facilities. Air conditioning is available but as a stand alone unit so can be temperamental. The location is faultless and in the centre of town. The whole rock can bereached easily by the bus service which is an amazing £1.50 for the whole day. Simply can not wait to go back again next year.   Collapse  Hide
