Gibraltar Holiday Reviews

Gibraltar

Gibraltar is situated at the southernmost tip of the Iberian peninsula where Europe meets Africa. There are magnificent panoramic views from the summit of the Rock of Gibraltar which dominates the territory as well as being home to the famous apes. Visitors are assured of breathtaking scenery, wildlife and architecture.

With flights departing from several UK airports and short journey times, Gibraltar is very simple to get to. The airport is located right next to the town so shuttle transfers take only a few minutes from airport to hotel.

  • The Rock of Gibraltar is the territory's most famous landmark and tourist attraction. With spectacular views across the Mediterranean (you can even see Africa on a clear day) and into Spain, a visit to the Rock is an absolute must. The Rock?s nature reserve houses over 300 Barbary macaques as well as an impressive array of flowers and plants. The tunnels beneath the Rock are also well worth a visit, some date back to the 18th century and were expanded during the Second World War to form a total length of over 300 metres.
  • Day Trips to Spain and Morocco are popular with visitors to Gibraltar. Take a ferry across the Strait of Gibraltar to Tangier. Take in the sights on a panoramic walking tour of the city. You will visit the Medina, a picturesque Souk and the Bazaars and Markets. For the adventurer in you why not choose the optional camel ride too? Popular trips into Spain include a Jerez Excursion, Estepona and Casares and even a coach trip to Marbella.
  • Grand Casemates Square is the largest town square and the historic centre of Gibraltar. Dating back to the 12th century, the square has been continuously expanded in various distinct styles and now houses many bars, pubs and restaurants.

Monkey Business in Gibraltar

Stay Date: 29/04/08, a customer from Manchester who stayed at 4* The Rock Hotel in Gibraltar wrote this review.

Staying in the Rock Hotel is like stepping back into the colonial past. Service is professional and discreet. Staff are helpful and polite. Almost every room has a balcony overlooking the See More  Read more information Med,standing there at dawn watching the cruise ships mooring was a glorious sight. Gibraltar is great for shopping, but watch your duty-free limits(old rules apply). Lots of nice places to lunch and it iseasy to get around by bus or taxi. Gibraltar has a certain charm, no changes of money required and feels like home, with sun! Give it a go for a short break. Gibralter Break

Stay Date: 30/03/09, a customer from Manchester who stayed at 4* The Rock Hotel in Gibraltar wrote this review.

Visiting Gibralter is like being at home, only sunnier & cheaper! Everyone speaks English, the pound is the local currency and the shopping is fabulous. We went on a dolphin safari (?20) and saw See More  Read more information the bottle-nosed dolphins leaping out of the water. A truly magical experience. We also walked across the boarder into Spain to visit the huge local Wednesday morning market in La Linea. Plenty ofbargains to be had but don`t forget your Euros & passport! We stayed at the Rock Hotel. It is a throw back to colonial times and is a restful and comfortable place to stay. Not everyone likes Gibraltar, but we love it and go every year. Try it. You might be surprised. Dinner overlooking the harbour with expensive yachts bobbing in the breeze   Collapse  Hide

6 Days In Gibraltar

Stay Date: 31/01/10, a customer from Sittingbourne who stayed at 4* The Rock Hotel in Gibraltar wrote this review.

We went to Gibraltar on the basis that it was as far south in europe as you can go and we needed a winter break. It is a very cosmopolitan place and make sure you enjoy as many of the different See More  Read more information cultures as you can. The small jewish cafe where we had a light lunch was very friendly with good food and family ambience. The gardens and nature reserve were very interesting and, due to the primelocation of the Rock Hotel, we visited these areas very day and always saw something different. Many of the aloes were in flower with nectar feeding birds in evidence. The local buses are frequent and canget you to most parts of Gibraltar very cheaply (and you meet the local people who are charming and helpful). It's worth staying in the Rock Hotel for its edwardian feel and its "poirot-esque" looks -even the sign "The Rock Hotel" reminds you of the title sequences of the David Suchet tv series! All in all a good experience and well worth repeating in March/April when the major bird migrationsare visible across the straits of Gibraltar.   Collapse  Hide
