Good place to stay close to all Paris transport links

Stay Date: 30/03/14, a customer aged 65+ from Chatham who stayed at 3* Avalon Hotel Gare du Nord in Paris wrote this review.

Only serious gripe was the hopeless Wifi connection. Had to re enter password and user name every time I wanted to use the internet. A number 30 bus outside hotel takes one to the Eiffel Tower. The See More  Read more information metro at Gare du Norde takes you close to Pompidou Centre and Latin Quarter. A good cheap place to stay for general exploration. Avoid all means of transport during the rush hour. Be polite - theFrench expect at least a 'good morning' etc even if you just buying a bottle of water at a kiosk.   Collapse  Hide

Hotel was well positioned, 2 mins from Gard de Nord and close to Metro. Room was small but clean. Staff were ok, breakfast was served 7.00 till 10.00. A lot of noise outside but in a busy area. See More  Read more information Lots of places to eat but some expensive. Pays to look around and go off the beaten track . Some hassle from beggars and guys selling phones but was very amusing seeing illegal street traders movedon. All in all a good trip.   Collapse  Hide

A three day Paris break!

Stay Date: 13/04/14, a customer aged 25-44 from London who stayed at 3* Avalon Hotel Gare du Nord in Paris wrote this review.

The hotel was your typical B and B and that was all you got really, the rooms were clean but do need a good updated make over. The sights were amazing. The Eiffel Tower wasn't much to look at at See More  Read more information first, but when you go up to the summit you can see the whole of Paris and it was incredible. At night it is all lit up and an even more amazing sight. The river cruise was wonderful if a littlechilly on a late Sunday afternoon. You get to see all the sights from the tower to Notre Dame and the Opera House as well as all the detailed bridges. The bus was a hop on hop off tour. We got offonly a few times. At the Louve we walked through to see the glass pyramids, walked through Tuileries garden to Concorde and Madeline church as well as seeing Arch de Triomphe. We then hopped back on toNortre Dame which was a breathtaking sight. The Catacombs, although we had to stand in line for three hours to get in was astonishing and the perfect way to end the week.   Collapse  Hide

Paris in the Spring

Stay Date: 16/04/14, a customer aged 45-64 from Portsmouth who stayed at 3* Avalon Hotel Gare du Nord in Paris wrote this review.

The Avalon Hotel was an excellent place to stay. 3mins walk from Gare du Nord station so getting around Paris was easy. Got a 10 ticket metro pass which was good value. Bedroom at the hotel was See More  Read more information basic but lovely and clean and the beds really comfy. Good continental breakfast each morning, with a nice choice of food. Lots of good restaurants around station to eat in evening,if you didn't want tostay right in the centre. Lots of lovely places to eat (and good value) in the Latin Quarter.   Collapse  Hide

Busy time in Paris

Stay Date: 18/04/14, a customer aged 45-64 who stayed at 3* Avalon Hotel Gare du Nord in Paris wrote this review.

The hotel is located within a few minutes walk of the Gard du Nord - leave the station through the front entrance and turn left! The hotel rooms are very small but have all you need for a short See More  Read more information stay, our room was clean but the bathroom was a little 'tatty'! Breakfast was a continental buffet which was fine with enough choice apart from the last morning when there was no bread fortoast!! The bus stops outside the hotel and is easy to use as is the Metro which is only a couple of minutes away, the hotel receptionists were helpful and told us the easiest way to get to where we wanted tobe! Queuing for the attractions was always going to be part of the trip, but everything is so disorganised - expect to wait a while and keep an eye on queue jumpers!! Everywhere has lots if stepstoo!   Collapse  Hide

Short break in Paris

Stay Date: 22/06/14, a customer aged 45-64 from Clacton-On-Sea who stayed at 3* Avalon Hotel Gare du Nord in Paris wrote this review.

Avalon hotel situated in a great location, close to Gare Du Nord, for exploring. Rooms small but sufficient for short break. Could do with coffee making facilities and air conditioning though. We See More  Read more information stayed during football World Cup and could not sleep with windows open due to locals celebrating through night. This made room very hot and uncomfortable. We walked to Eiffel Tower soaking up atmosphereand and coffee or two in 3 hours via Norte dame, louvre and a few other places, but you could take a number 42 bus direct in 30 mins. Slower than metro but you do get to see the sights. Highlyrecommend Montparnesse Tower 56, better views than from Eiffel Tower and no queues.   Collapse  Hide

Notre Dame Service

Stay Date: 26/06/14, a customer aged 45-64 who stayed at 3* Avalon Hotel Gare du Nord in Paris wrote this review.

We went to Notre Dame early on Saturday morning to find an Ordination Ceremony about to start. There were outdoor screens and speakers and much of the service was conducted from outside the front See More  Read more information doors. There were scores of people many in white cassocks seated in front of the cathedral. We listened to the magnificent old bells while the church dignitaries made their procession into thecathedral. We listened to the great organ and the beautiful choir singing. The entire service was beautiful. We had come for a conference on the Friday and this was a special bonus quite unexpected and all themore wonderful. Thank you Paris and the Church for a very special treat.   Collapse  Hide

Sight Seeing in Paris

Stay Date: 22/10/14, a customer aged 45-64 who stayed at 3* Avalon Hotel Gare du Nord in Paris wrote this review.

We were very disappointed in Hotel Avalon . Although it was handy from Gare Du Nord, it was nothing like the photos on the website. The paint was flaking off everywhere. Pour twin room was gloomy, See More  Read more information unclean and had a stale smell. When we tried to change room, we were told that it was not possible. Walls very thin. The free river cruise was great and so were all the attractions. Pity about theHotel.   Collapse  Hide
