About Paul Weller
In 2017 “The Modfather” celebrated the 40th anniversary of the release of his first album, The Jam’s “In The City”. To celebrate this landmark Paul Weller has releasing a new album “A Kind of Revolution” and also embarking on a UK arena tour in 2018. When The Jam burst onto the UK music scene in 1977, Paul Weller was only 19 years old but his ability as a songwriter became clear with the massive chart success of singles like “The Eton Rifles”, “Going Underground” and “Town Called Malice”.
Disbanding The Jam at the peak of their popularity came as a surprise to many (including his fellow band members!) but Weller wanted to explore a more soulful style of music and so formed The Style Council. Further chart success followed including breaking into the American Billboard Top 100.
After The Style Council split, Weller embarked on a successful solo career, which really took off with the release of the album “Stanley Road” in 1995. Well known tracks from the album include “The Changingman” and “You Do Something to Me”. Weller gained the moniker “The Modfather” around this time as he was hailed as a major influence on the Britpop movement and bands such as Oasis and Ocean Colour Scene. He has continued to release solo albums on a regular basis to commercial and critical acclaim winning awards along the way such as the Ivor Novello Lifetime Achievement, the 2009 BRIT award for Best Male Solo Artist and a BRIT Lifetime Achievement Award.
