London

Stay Date: 31/08/07, a customer from Northallerton who stayed at 4* Montague On The Gardens in Bloomsbury wrote this review.

The Montague on the Gardens delivered yet again. Our request for a quiet room was realised with a lovely garden view and the morning birdsong was magnificent. The standard rooms are compact but well See More  Read more information equipped - complimentary slippers, bath robes, lovely squashy pillows and bottled mineral waters. All staff very attentive and breakfast to suit all tastes continental, fruits, cheese, meat and fullenglish. Took tube just once and staggered at the prices since we lived there. After that just walked everywhere and enjoyed that unique London variety and atmosphere. The Churchill Museum andCabinet War Rooms drew us in and kept our attention for hours until at 1800 closing time they threw us out. Careful you don't spend so long looking at Churchill's life that you don't have time for theremainder of the war rooms. Excellent narration on the free audio guide. Visited the Royal Mews - amazing Golden Coach just wish there were more horses to see (only 4 in residence as the rest wereon summer break - wonder what these 4 did wrong?) Mandela statue unveiled that week but you took your life in your hands crossing Parliament Square to reach him - not one crossing point justRussian Roulette with the traffic! Kings Cross station seems to get worse platform announced only 8 mins before departure. Ok if you are fit and first class but if you are wobbly on the old pins theplatform takes some walking to second class. Only about a dozen seats in whole station. Have been going to Topo Gigios in Brewer Street for at least 35 years from teenager to mid 50s. Happy atmosphereand speedy service of really tasty food pre or post theatre. Seems to have stayed true to its roots despite moving premises years ago and never embraced pretention, coulis or drizzles. Merchant ofVenice at the Globe - Brilliant atmosphere with a great feeling of audience involvement. You'll need to be young and fit to be a groundling (standing) but the atmosphere here seemed the best. Greatmainly young, energetic cast who used facial and vocal expression to such an effect that even my "I never understand Shakespeare" husband followed the twists and turns of the plot. Thank you so muchSam Wanamaker for staying true to your dream and allowing us such a different theatrical experience. Highly recommend but not for weak backs and you will need a cushion!   Collapse  Hide

A Pleasant Stay

Stay Date: 02/09/07, a customer who stayed at 4* Savill Court Hotel & Spa in Windsor wrote this review.

Visited this hotel as it was the venue for a friend's wedding. Everything went well - a pleasant stay. Rooms newly refurbished - very clean and comfortable but a little on the small side. Day at Thruxton Race Circuit

Stay Date: 03/09/07, a customer who stayed at 4* Legacy Rose and Crown Hotel in Salisbury wrote this review.

Stayed at the Rose & Crown hotel in Salisbury which is just a short drive from Thruxton Race Circuit so my husband could enjoy his 50th birthday present - a racing day, which was excellent. We had See More  Read more information the afternoon in Salisbury and stayed in the hotel overnight. Dinner in the hotel was excellent (although there were only 4 tables being used as it was the end of the school holidays). Breakfast wasone of the best I've ever had in a hotel and the staff were great. The hotel could do with a bit of TLC but our room was lovely and big, overlooking a beautiful garden and the river Avon.   Collapse  Hide

London Weekend

Stay Date: 31/08/07, a customer who stayed at 4* The Cavendish London in Mayfair wrote this review.

Train great value for a Glasgow - London return but delays both ways of 1 hour+ (Virgin) Cavendish Hotel lovely - very central, plush and a beautiful luxurious room. Good breakfast with lots See More  Read more information of choice and reasonable service times. But the bar quite a different experience... a hallway, style lobby bar which charges an outrageous almost £10 for spirit & mixer! It may be a double measurebut that's more than the Savoy charge and they're probably entitled to for the sheer class of the experience. My recommendation is give it a miss and try the little pub to the left of the hotel -friendly & much more 'local' Chicago - Very good entertainment value - worth seeing but a little raunchy so not really for kids or the easily offended.   Collapse  Hide

Bella Roma in Portland Street was the one we hit late on Friday night and enjoyed a super meal - staffvery friendly. On Saturday morning we all enjoyed a super breakfast in Novotel - chef even came to chat to us and was all interested in the soccer match. We hit Arndale Shopping Centre which is massive(would need more time as we only had two & a half hours). Headed for Old Trafford and got into the spirit of things. Match disappointing but atmosphere super MU won! Sunday brought us out to do thetour of stadium, museum, etc. Well worth a visit. Intend returning next year to do the sights of Manchester!   Collapse  Hide
