The hotel was very clean and tidy, with an excellent leisure facility. Very good quality rooms with comforatble bed. The room was quite warm with no way to cool it down other than to open a window, which being near a motorway was not ideal. The other slight drawback was the continual clicking of the hot water pipes expanding and contracting throughout the night, even though there was no heating on in the room. But overall I would recommend the hotel.

Short Break In Derby

A customer from Malvern who stayed at this hotel wrote this review.

Stay Date: 23/05/09

Overall Hotel Rating:

5 out of 5

The hotel was great, excellent breakfast but not a great variety on evening meal menu so we ventured further afield. The spa was great and staff very good, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Our room although a little small was well furnished and clean and good standard. It was a little too warm and noisy pipes but we did not complain at the time but reported facts at departure. Reception staff were excellent and once aware of our concerns about room were quite upset that we had not asked to be moved. This is admiral as most hotels are terribly concerned once you are leaving. Overall excellent break and would highly recommend.

Most of our visits were to National Trust properties as we are members. We also spent time exploring the countryside and small villages.Away from the towns Derbyshire is very picturesque.Apart from the National Trust properties such as the historic Hardwick Hall, there are a number of privately owned properties, such as Chatsworth, that are well worth a visit.

We stayed at the Derbyshire as a bit of an in between visiting a few friends and local attractions. The hotel was excellent, the staff were friendly and the buffet breakfast - we certainly got our money's worth. I booked this hotel as it was cheaper than the Travelodge with breakfast! Plus we had the added benefit of pool, sauna, jacuzzi etc which myself and my daughter made use of. Pool was nice and quiet and just the job after a long journey.

The hotel room was very hot, and the thermostat didn't make a difference, so we turned the radiator off completely. Apart from that, the room was fine, the breakfast was also good. We wanted time away, without any agenda's and the Peak District was in easy driving distance. Spent time in Bakewell, Castleton on the Saturday, and visited Chatsworth House on the Sunday. Although expensive, it was well worth the visit.

Lovely hotel, although room was quite small, but when you are a family of four you get used to being a bit squashed. Hotel room was very hot and although we had a fridge it didn't seem to work. Leisure facilities were excellent was nice to have a swim after a busy day out and relax before dinner. Hotel breakfast was very good and even though the hotel was very busy we never had to wait for a table. Would definately stay here again.

Places To See In Derbyshire.

A customer from UK who stayed at this hotel wrote this review.

Stay Date: 01/08/11

Overall Hotel Rating:

4 out of 5

Our hotel room was clean and comfortable with a decent size bed and a fridge. The tv could do with more than 5 channels. Breakfast was average, you had to ask for fried or poached eggs. Breakfast at weekends is busy as the dining room is quite small. Although there were wedding parties, the hotel was really quiet. It's very handy being situated just off j28 of the m1. Great places to see from here are hardwick halls, old and new and bolsover castle. Matlock is nice but i don't think i'd bother to go to the heights of abraham again, the cable car is expensive and the cafes are crowded and very expensive.

We had 3 nights at the Derbyshire hotel, and travelled all around the dales. The shopping at the outlets were great, the scenery was great and the hotel was easy to get to and a good base to explore the area from. The rooms were clean and warm, but the windows need replacing, then the noise of the traffic would be quieter.

Derbyshie

A customer from Leeds who stayed at this hotel wrote this review.

Stay Date: 11/04/09

Overall Hotel Rating:

4 out of 5

The hotel was lovely, the staff pleasant and the atmosphere relaxed. The downsides being the beds were awful, I'm 29 and can sleep on the floor without a problem but I woke up after a few hours of bad sleep with such a bad back. I managed the whole 3 nights as I hated to complain and I suffered for it. Also for some reason even though we were told breakfast was between 8-11, when we got to breakfast on our last day at 10 they were closing it down. I ended up with three pieces of toast. The area is beautiful, the brewers fayre pub - the Castlewood is fantastic. Great food and great value, just like the shopping centre a mere 1 mile away.We went to Chatsworth House and Alton Towers - both close and both well worth a visit. If you don't want to eat in the hotel you have to plan your meals - we had to travel 11 miles to find a chinese restaurant, which was nice but in a really rough area - police cars and groups of kids everywhere. However with some better planning there would of been better places to eat.

Stayed at this hotel whilst visiting Patchings Art Fair about 15 miles away. Hotel generally was very good. The downside was the poor night's sleep caused by the irritating tap, tap, tap of the heating system pipes. The radiator was turned off but the room very stuffy and had no air-con in the room.

We planned to spend a mother/daughter night at the hotel with a couple of pamper sessions in the spa area. The hotel was welcoming and helpful. The manicures etc. we had were reasonably priced but the quality was average. I'd say could do better. We ate in the restaurant and this was fine but a little pricey. The staff at all times were welcoming and happy to help. We'd go again.

Unexciting Stay

A customer from CAMBRIDGE who stayed at this hotel wrote this review.

Stay Date: 15/02/13

Overall Hotel Rating:

3 out of 5

The hotel location was convenient (straight off the motorway) but undesirable in that there was very little else around apart from a retail outlet and a Brewers Fayre over the road. The hotel menu was limited and the restaurant was overcrowded so it left few options for a good meal. The hotel pool and spa facilities were also extremely busy - it felt uncomfortable to stay in the Jacuzzi too long as other people were obviously hanging about waiting. The staff tried to be helpful on most things and we got a late check out of 2pm in the afternoon for only £10. It would have been better if they had dealt with the noise and smoking of the next door room to us promptly though. Overall, it was a pretty average experience in unexciting surroundings, we ended up watching a lot of TV!

We stayed at th Derbyshire hotel, price for three nights was a bargain. The room was adequate for our party of 4, 2 adults and 2 children. The hotel had gym, swimming pool, whirlpool, steam and sauna if needed to relax beside staying in your room which was quite nice but the pool was quite small. The breakfast did not have much variety especially if you are staying more than 1 night.

My family and I stayed in this hotel last year so had no hesitation in returning. However the hotel rooms despite the mobile fans were just too hot and clammy, after a day walking around in the heat at alton towers it was the last thing we needed. However the rooms were clean and service in the hotel was spot on. We only had bar snacks which were fine. They need to sort out the air con!

The hotel was clean and the staff were very helpful but... Do not plan to stay in the hotel on an exceptional hot day as there is no air conditioning.

Hotel location seemed to be in in the slow lane, not much happening really. Hotel was OK however with a nice pool for the price. My only revervation was the size of the rooms...small, not suitable for more than two people. Very clean however and well kitted with all the 4* niceties

Walking in the peak district is a breath taking experience, very accesable. Disapointed with The Derbyshire Hotel, room smelly toilet did not flush i reported it to hotel staff but nothing was done about it and no comment made about it from the staff when we left just shrugged shoulders. I have stayed a lots of spa hotels and thought The Derbyshire leisure facilities average.

My visit was purely to visit family. On this occasion I did not visit any local areas or places of interest. Perhaps next time.

Disappointment at Derby

A customer from Hertfordshire who stayed at this hotel wrote this review.

I usually look on the internet before I book a holiday but as we had been with superbreaks holidays before I did not this time. We were very disappointed. We both left stressful jobs for a break to be surrounded by laptops and mobile phones of conference people. There is no where for those of us who were not attending a conference to relax as the lounge was available for meetings. We both feel this hotel should not be in the Superbreaks brouchure as it was not very relaxing.

My main reason for the weekend was to go to the event held recently in Donington Park circuit,we did visit the largest museum of cars and enjoyed the racing day,it was disappointing tough we could not find a decent restaurant nearby the hotel and there were poor choiceon the menu,i did expected more from a 4star hotel, however the second day we did enjoy a day trip to Heights of Abraham which was really nice .
