me and my husband had never been to malta before and everyone that we spoke to all said you would either love it or hate it, i wouldn't say that i would return again but we had a lovely holiday the first couple of days it rained, but after that the weather was lovely, the palace hotel we sayed in was very clean and nice, but the bathrooms could do with a make over but was very clean i might add, if you do go with children they will love popey village, but the pavements out there are a little concerning for elderly people, but all in all we had a lovely time.

we stayed at the topaz in bugibba a nice hotel, beautiful pool good family hotel old but clean we were self catering and the only complaint was that we had no balcony which was not stated at the time of booking.the surrounding streets are very noisey at night but safe to walk.malta its self we found very quiet not much happens there during the day or night.i recommend captain morgans cruises pay the extra for the food it is excellent.our holiday was spoilt by the fact that the buses and taxis went on strike for most of our holiday limiting travel aound the island it was a disgrace and put us off thinking of going there again .my daughter left her phone in the hotel room because we had to rush out the morning we were leaving as the taxi arrived 45 minutes early, we contacted the hotel but they said it had not been found weird as i remember putting it under her pillow before she fell asleep !when we arrived at the airport in malta we had to wait an hour to get a taxi as the one we had arranged and paid for did not pick us up

The Maltese islands are like yellow gem stones in the turquoise Mediterranean Sea under wonderful blue skies. They are filled with historical sites and have an unspoilt natural beauty just waiting to be explored and experienced. The people are friendly and it is a safe destination for young families. May is a wonderful time to visit the islands; the plants are in full bloom, the roads and key sites are less crowded and many of the cities have fiestas. There are stone age temples, Roman ruins, Medieval castles, magnificent cathedrals and craft centres selling high quality jewellery, glass and lace. Around the coast are fabulous rock formations and small sandy beaches. The crystal clear waters are a magnet for divers. Bugibba is located on the main east coast highway and is a good base for touring the islands by car. To visit the many sites of Gozo island make sure you arrive early in the morning for the car ferry and if you are planning to visit the Hypogeum you will need to pre-book months in advance on the web otherwise you will have to risk queuing all morning for limited expensive last minute tickets! The Topaz Hotel is fantastic value for money with an excellent outdoor swimming pool. The rooms are simply furnished and very clean. The evening meals ranged from good to excellent with a three course buffet offering a choice of English and Maltese meals. The desserts were delicious and I would definitely recommend the half board option.
