A Day And Night In Manchester

Overall Hotel Rating:
out of 5We arrived earlier than 2 pm but were allowed to check in. Our room was very clean and comfy but in need of reburbishment - this did not affect our comfort or enjoyment. Overall, the hotel was attractive and pleasant to stay in. Breakfast was more than excellent. Staff great, and we received a discount on the overnight car parking. We visited the city gallery with its beautiful collection and nice shop; we had dinner at the bank restaurant, very reasonably priced and very close to the gallery and hotel. We did a bit of shopping, and we saw dolly parton in concert at the arena.

out of 5Unfortunately the hotel was very busy and that meant that we had to queue for about 20 minutes before we were able to get to the self service breakfast bar. So my tip would be not to leave it too late on a Sunday morning to have breakfast. When we eventually got our food it was however excellent.

out of 5Just one minor gripe - why did the people who greeted us in the breakfast room have to be so rude? Food was great and one of the chefs even asked if our breakfast was ok. We will go again..but just give breakfast a miss if the rude staff are working.

out of 5we travelled to manchester for our sons graduation ceremony at the lowery center on salford quays, ba with hons!congratulations son.We spent a short time in Manchester city center shopping the only 'downside' was the expensive taxi ride from our hotel to the lowery, two cars for 8 people one charged ?9 and the other ?12 for the same journey. we took the tram back to town center for ?1.80 each!if only we had known! anyone who has not been to manchester ever or not for a long time we would recommend you go and visit the lowery and salford quays and the city itself. the britannia hotel is bang in the middle of the city ideal for everything and is excellent accomodation with very friendly, helpful staff. thanks the young family, hull.

Great value for money.Whitworth Gallery wonderful layout, spacious rooms and exhibits beautifully presented. Loved the Walter Crane exhibition and the textiles.Enjoyed the ambiance and meal at the Japanese restaurant, obviously part of a chain but with friendly staff that gave the place individuality sometimes missed in chains

out of 5Travelled by train mid-morning and strolled to hotel Britannia to drop off bags. After some shopping, checked in mid afternoon, wasted about an hour doing that, everyone had arrived at once and the staff were swamped. Had a room on the 5th (top) floor, strange slanted windows obviously difficult to clean and the curtain rail was broken. Otherwise the room was clean and comfortable but I was cold when we came in from our night out, the radiator didn't seem to be working so I plugged in the oil filled radiator. We had tickets for the theatre and visited a couple of lively bars beforehand, the blue parrot near the hotel and an irish pub on several floors. We were late coming out of the theatre but the Red Chilli restaurant staff were great and served us very promptly, we had a selection of delicious and different main courses. Our nights sleep was broken by some idiot setting off the fire alarm at 3.30am. Breakfast was fantastic in the hotel, porridge to write home about and buffet style for the full english. Finished off the weekend at the Manchester art gallery, free that weekend, will have to go back so much to see. I went to the john rydall church/library, the building was beautiful in itself and the exhibitions interesting.

out of 5this hotel is in an excellent location for the city centre, men, gmex etc as well as the trafford centre. We went to the Men to see take that As I was travelling with kids we just ate in The Arndale centre, lots of fast food choice! The hotel itself is very nice, room was spacious BUT we were there a week or 10days before Christmas, at the weekend. It was very noisy with christmas parties within the hotel and annoying if you had small children. Mine are 15 so we just put up with it.Breakfast has to be the highlight of the day. In a retaurant overlooking the airport (not everyones cup of tea I realise, but my kids loved it) we ate until bursting point! Nobody would be disappointed with this spread. Yoghurts, muffins, danish pastries, fresh fruit and of course everything you can name in a full english. Well worth the extra to stay here

Overall Hotel Rating:
out of 5My short break, was very short. Only one night. The trip was for a business meeting, so I did not have too much time to explore the cities attractions. The Hotel itself, whilst although a rather old buliding is in the course of renovation and is sited in the Cioty Centre. Facilites were adequte, although I had a room to the rear of the Hotel, I would imagine one to the front could be quite noisy. It is quite abusy road outside the Hotel.

out of 5We took our niece & nephew to Manchester to watch the Man Utd v Chelsea game and decided to make a weekend of it.From the minute we set off the whole weekend was perfect - even the kids behaved themselves! And when we saw the hotel, well the kids thought it was amazing! And it couldn't have been better location wise, right in the centre of Manchester! We sampled everything - shopping, eating, bowling, the games arcade at the Trafford Centre, ice skating, and of course the football. All in all a wonderful weekend we look forward to repeating - thanks Superbreak!

out of 5Hotel room adequate though bed was lumpy. Remote for TV did not work. Staff were polite. Location of hotel excellent, but a little noisy at night due to the close proximity of trams and bus station, although both modes of transport were extremely efficient when used. Bar rogue (adjoining) was pleasant-had a good atmosphere, but the actual hotel bar was very quiet and dour. Our meal at the well-known abode restaurant was nothing to write home about-the pork chops were tough (due to over-cooking) and the potato salad difficult to find!-luckily we'd ordered extra side-dishes.

out of 5The weekend was generally good due to going to the Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford. The only down side to the weekend was the amount of noise which could be heard in our room. Our room was on the fifth floor yet a bar somewhere very close if not actually within the hotel were playing music so loud we could hear every word of the songs which were being played, not the best when you're trying to get to sleep. Checking in at the hotel seemed to take a very long time but otherwise everything else was fine.

out of 5We stayed at The Britannia hotel in Manchester, never again. Very surprised as usually Superbreak are very good. We had 3 room changes, the 4th room was as we would have expected the first to be. After being evacuated at 3am on the first night we came out of our room in the morning to have to walk over builders dust sheets, they were decorating!

A Night at The Britannia Hotel in Manchester
A customer from NOTTINGHAM who stayed at this hotel wrote this review.
Stay Date: 13/10/12
Overall Hotel Rating:
out of 5This hotel is in need of urgent modernisation and better management of the cleaning process. When we arrived, our room had an empty Champagne bottle, used glasses and crockery left in the room. There was a used bar of soap in the sink and the general appearance was one of not being clean. We were moved to another room - slightly better but still with threadbare carpets, a poorly working shower, a lack of basic equipment (such as bedside cabinets, reading lamps and rubbish bin) and an outdated TV. We could clearly hear the people talking next door and could hear those above take every step. We couldn't wait to leave the next morning! We can't write off the experience as 'you get what you pay for' as we paid far more than we have done before when staying in Manchester on a Saturday night.
