York Short Stay

We stayed at the mystery hotel in York which was close to the racecourse and only two miles from York city centre which was within easy walking distance. The hotel check in was very quick and efficient and ate there on the first night food was very good and all the staff very friendly and nothing too much trouble. We found York very easy to navigate but were a bit disappointed at some of the entrance fees they were charging i.e. ?9 to enter the Minster. Eenjoyed tea & a sandwhich at Betty's tearoom which had been recommended. Also had a very friendly welcome in O'Neills bar. Overall a very pleasant stay

Great weekend in York with two ten year olds

We stayed at the relaxing holiday inn york . The location, service and food was good. We drove about a mile to the askam park and ride to leave the car whilst we visited york city. It only cost us ?5.20 for the day for 2 adults and 2 children. We visited York's Chocolate Story where a guide told us the history of chocolate making in york. There were interactive displays and chocolate making demonstrations and we made our own chocolate lollipop .The visit was interesting for our family but i think would be boring for under 8's. Much smaller than Cadbury World. We had a wander around the pretty historical townOn our second day we visited the newly refurbished York Dungeons. Wow this was much better, scarier and more interesting than expected. Highly recommended for adults and children 10 + . The atmosphere was extremely realistic the actors were very convincing and used members of our group to demonstrate the horrors of the dungeons of York in historical times. We screamed, laughed and had loads of fun so we didnt want the tour to end. We later visited the Jorvik Viking Centre. This has a ride through a viking village with commentry of what is happening and how it would be during viking times. There are lots of Viking exhibits that have been dug up in York. If you are interested in the Vikings you could spend all day in here but my children got bored after the ride. I'm glad we went because it was good to get a general idea of how the Vikings lived and settled in York. We pre booked all our tickets which i would recommend to avoid the queues at the venues. Our Easter holiday trip was educational as well as being relaxing and great fun.

Family Break in York

A customer from Stockport who stayed at this hotel wrote this review.

We visited York as a last minute treat for our children aged 12 and 9 before going back to school. The hotel was easy to find with lots of free parking - a bonus in York.Reception were welcoming and well informed. The hotel room was clean but a little tired, however as we had booked this as a great value "Mystery Hotel" we were delighted with the excellent value for money. We ate at the Fox and Roman. It was very busy and I would recommend booking. The hotel breakfast was very good with a wide choice of hot and cold items. The children enjoyed making their own pancakes.

Having seen most of the sites on previous visits. We walked the walls of the City taking in the views of the City centre, castle, towers, York Minster. If you love shopping this is a great City. The Mystery Hotel had everything you could want for a short break. Buffet breakfasts served between 7.00 and 11.00am at weekends 30 minutes earllier during the week, great for sleeping in after a night out in York at one of the many great bars in the centre. Transport to and from the hotel is good value with regular buses nearby. The whole holiday was excellent value for money. I would recommend the Fox and Roman across the road from the hotel, food, service and atmosphere hard to beat. If you love shopping York is a must.
